Found a source of super cheap paper in oil caps from Russia.
Some say they are ridiculously good, others say different, as always.
I know big paper in oil caps fo for stupid money but these are easily affordable so I must admit to being a little intrigued
Anyone tried any?
Secondly, I'm very interested in knocking up a capacitor burn in device...any tips?

Is your post in the right section of the forum El Capitain?

Not tried Russian paper in oil caps but heard plenty of them implemented in Croft amps of the past. They were very good but I believe quality and supply issues were an issue?

Is your post in the right section of the forum El Capitain? Well, I did wonder that myself lol... I do see them as a bit of bling, like an accessory but that could just be me.

I am sure some Russian stuff is very good, they did some great valves in the Soviet Union so would not be surprised if they did some pretty good paper Oil caps.
I will make some enquiries.

Good man Yes, they seem very popular to be fair and it's a bit like the valve situation, there's only a finite number of them left. If they are worth a listen, I'll possibly buy a few to keep in reserve as the usual place I visit for such oddities is say 'out of stock' on a lot of the mist common values.

Yup, I stocked up on russian teflon and large value styrene, I mean who the hell does 1uf styrene caps these days, no one.
They'll all be old, 10, 20 years at least, but they should be fine.
Oli, a cap burn in machine, just use a cheap bench top dc power supply

Yup, it's that simple, start low and increase 5% to rated voltage every five minutes. No need for fancy frequency stuff.

I've abandoned the Idea of buying the Russian Caps and have instead opted to go with the Clarity Cao CMR 2.2uf..
I've heard these in Karl's BB3 and I'm absolutely convinced by them.
The CSA versions I have give a flavour if what to expect bit the CMR sound massive in comparison.

They're certainly a better solution re long term availability. I wouldnt use unobtanium bits is builds for third partys. I'm partial to them in my own stuff though.

I was tempted to give a pair a try but the reviews are of a very midcentric sound. That wouldn't last long here so i thought better of it. Also, hearing the CMr caps in Karls phonostage made it a no brainer

I put decent clarity caps in that emerald, solid parts. Yes I have to agree. I have flirted with them intermittently, almost with a reluctance to see them as a final destination but as I say, the effect of the CMR ones is obvious. I have been quite lucky, as I've had the ability to try the Vishays, (which really measure well), the Clarity Cap CSA and the Carity Cap CMR in quick succession. All I have had to do is change the cables over on the three BB3 phonostagesbi have here currently. They are a shoe in now for anything I make that needs output caps.
