After reading Oliver's recent thread about attenuator I followed the eBay link to Stoyan's sellers page and found this phonostage a Hagerman Bugle 2 which Stoyan had built for himself it's MM only and runs on two 12v batteries so we've agreed a price for it plus the batteries. Though I like the idea of batteries how practical it will be I'm not sure so I'll try it for a while and see. s-l1600 by

Yes he is but for the money I’d never buy a phono stage with that level of components.

Yes he is but for the money I’d never buy a phono stage with that level of components. Oh absolutely! It'll be built properly too, which is always a bonus.

Sorry, I don't understand the last two posts, one saying they'd never buy it with that level of components, (what is wrong with them?), and Bigman agreeing, but it will be well built.

That's how I read the posts anyway

Yes correct Bigman80.
I think I left out 'be able to' from the sentence 'but for the money I'd never buy'.which is why I was misunderstood.

Just had a message from Stoyan he is parceling up the stage and batteries. I do have a question for you analogue masters is there any difference sonically between the small lead filled motorcycle batteries that are coming my way or a lithium battery pack?

The SLA's (sealed lead acid) have a lower internal resistance, so should sound really good.

Which material should I use for a phono stage case wood or aluminium?

Personally I would use aluminium, as that gives some shielding. There are 100's of different cases to chose.

Have a look at Modushops Galaxy range. They do a fully vented lid for most in their lineup and that is a very useful thing for Valves.

Are there any better or equal alternatives to power this phono stage rather than batteries?

I've bought this embedded linear 24v psu to try against the batteries if I like it more than the batteries I will buy two matching cases for it and the Bugle if not it can power my little chip amp. s-l500 by

Well the little Bugle absolutely came to life tonight it's batteries had completely died about a week ago so after I'd bought a charger I gave them a full charge and connected it up this evening to the Rega I had just built and wether it was the full charge, the Rega rather than the 1210 or the MCRU No 44 cables I don't know but it just came to life beautiful midrange, the upper frequencies where as clear and concise as they could be with separation and space around each instrument the only thing lacking ever so slightly was the lower frequencies but maybe that was just the recording. . What I need now is a decent case to get it bolted into I have one for the batteries I just need to fix them to it and stick some feet on.

It's been a few months since I posted on this thread as I'm finding the charging and recharging of the batteries a real pain the stage itself is very good but I'm just not using it so I'm looking for some very clever member who I can pay to put it inside a case with perhaps two rechargeable PP3's so that I can always have two batteries charged and it's just a case of swapping them out.
I'm also open to suggestions of getting the very best out of this little phono stage as unfortunately I'm clueless.

Actually I could buy another 12V Lead batteries and keep them charged.
