They useed to make them out of cactus spines and bamboo.
Both less than optimal.

They wood change the musical timber with changes in humidity perhaps? Could be a Beech to oak out the last bit of performance and leave you pining for an Ally one. .......I'll get my coat....  |

I'll joist have to check if I can adjust my VTA (vertical timber angle) VTF (Vertical timber force) before I drop the needle in the tounge and groove, batten down the cover, knot that I do this normally, but it is good to against the grain from time to time.
