I'm in the process of getting a new MC for my 1210. I really like forensically, analytical sounding cartridges, more the better. So, guys what do you recommend?

Usually any high end Lyra would be all that's required for this

Thanks, was thinking of going down the FGS profile on the Cadenza black.

Find something with a fine line profile, boron or jewel canti and low output. Theres loads of choice. Stiff canti, good diamond and low mass are key.
Art art-7?
Lot of cart for the money

Audio Technica OC9 ML2. It's the most analytic cartridge I've ever heard. Plus , it'll strip the paint off your walls, send any Corona virus running for the hills with its fingers in its ears and make every record sound so painful that you'll go MM within a week. 😖👎

I've had a couple of AT carts. I usually love a well defined treble but the ATOC9/II and III turned out to be just a little too much. Yep, strident is the word. I must admit to getting a little bored of MM and MI's now. I think I need to spend this weekend looking at cart's.......

The new cartridge Oliver has bought is to be honest the best MC I have heard by far. It is forensic in that it reveals loads of information you never new you had in the recording but it is not strident or etched, in fact it is super smooth sounding with an expansive soundstage. It delivers on every aspect of performance you could want.
My first observation when I heard it at Olivers was that it was the best of MM and MC cartridges and delivered a sound that had the balls of a great MM but the information and finesse of a MC.
Very strong recommendation Andy, it is a very special cartridge

Higher end Dynavectors might suit, and the 17D3 I think is a highly analytical one. Lyras for sure imho. Higher end Ortofons I think mostly fall into that camp as well, especially ones like the older Quintet.

OK that's what I'm looking! I've had limited very limited experience with Lyra's and Dynavectors so that could be tonight's homework over a beer or three.

I'm assuming that you 1210 is an I mproved version . I have a standard one and I don't think it's worthy of a top moving coil to be honest. Excuse my ignorance of said rekkid player.

Andy, I cannot recommend enough, sending your Cadenza Black to Kilian Bakker for him to refurb and re-tip it with the Fritz Gyger S stylus/tip profile, which is Ortofon's Replicant, as I've done. It does what you're after and more. An absolutely no brainer, in my experience and for what it cost too - fabulous ! Be warned though, as is the case with these sophisticated stylus profiles, you'll have to pay meticulous attention to set-up and why I have to have on the fly vta

Yes it's an option that first came to mind TBH but I just wanted to explore new avenues. The black has been described as being a bit "sleepy" in presentation. Something I wouldn't agree with but I do like a very lively, forensic, analytical presentation. I'm fully aware of the meticulous nature of the Black's set up. Trust me my SME V has not been touched in the last 3 years. My Black has started to loose top end detail so I think it's time to start looking into either a new cart or retip.

To be honest Andy and I know you may feel it would be a sideways step but if you wanted something that had massive analytical detail and delivered what you maybe looking for then I would even suggest a 2M Black MM with the FGS stylus which is exactly what I use.
It ticks all the boxes you are looking for I think.

Oh, decisions, decisions!

Oh, decisions, decisions! I bought a second hand knackered donor 2M Black and used this. I think it cost £300 and then another £300 for the FGS upgrade. I kept my other 2M black standard but when the stylus wears out that will also go for the same upgrade.

I think its £450 to get the work done on the Cadenza Black.

I think it cost me £330 to have my Lyra Helikon retipped by Expert Stylus. I couldn't afford £1200 for a new cartridge at the time and thought this was the best option, and I have to say it sounds superb now. £450 for the Cadenza seems a deal on an £1800 cartridge, and I don't think you would be disappointed.

Exactly! I wasn't. Deal of the century in my book. You'll be looking at around £3K upwards for the next one up from the Cadenza Black, which will have the Replicant stylus on it, same profile as the FGS
