Morning Andy and welcome. I’m new myself and I’m really enjoying the laidback feel to this forum. I’m sure you will feel the same way, it’s a great place to be at a difficult time.
Nathan.

Tell us a bit about yourself, system, music preferences etc. Sure. My older brother influenced my musical tastes early on. As a youngster I was using a Dansette valve based record player that was in the bedroom listening to the likes of Chubby Checker, Buddy Holly, The Beatles etc. When my brother bought a system (JVC DD turntable, Luxman integrated, can't remember the speakers) which sounded great, I was listening to his albums such as Yes, Floyd, Zep etc. This would have been the middle '70s. Got my first job and bought myself my first decent car in the early '80s (MkII Escort RS2000) but after about 6 months or so of buying the car, my brother moved out (new job) and took his stereo with him! I then realised how much I missed my tunes so sold the car for the same money that I bought it!! So, cash in hand, I went to a HiFi reseller in Manchester and bought my first proper system - Michell Syncro TT, Audiolab 8000A and Hybrook HB1 speakers. Loved it. (recently replaced the speaker drivers in the HB1's and gave them to my brother-in-law as a gift with a refurbed Dynatron system using a Lenco L78 TT for his 50th) Used this for many years until I moved out (and about) and then updated the front end with a Bronze Gyro - had a few speaker changes also such as Mission 753's, TDL RTL2's (which I still have but the woofers have been blown and the boxes are a little damaged now) then onto a pair of Quad 12L's. During this period I also got gifted a system from an uncle who passed away - Pioneer Tuner, Aiwa tape deck, Leak Integrated amp and Leak Goldring L75 TT. Can't remember the speakers, think they were Hitachi but the cones were perished - so was put into storage - this was around the late 90's. Around this time I also built a pair of valve based power amps, the kit was bought from Maplin's and sounded pretty good until one of them went faulty and I couldn't get it sorted so they were moth balled. Still with me Will continue tomorrow as got cramp in my fingers now

THanks for the comments chaps.
Alan, one of the amps was dismantled so I could use the parts for other projects so beyond repair to be honest but thanks for the offer!

So, where did I get too in my story - hope you are sitting comfortably Having moved again I decided to dig out the audio system gifted to me and quickly dismissed the cassette player as it wasn't up to much, but the Lenco piqued my interest and after a little bit of Internet searching found a site called 'Lenco Lovers' so joined it to then see what could be done with this loverly piece of Swiss engineering. After creating a new plinth and servicing the L75, I was gobsmacked with what I was hearing through my system - almost shamed the Gyro! I then sourced a few more L75's and created new plinths etc (and different arms), then passed them on to new owners (I also got given a couple of Garrard 25 MKIII - sorted one out and gave it to my neighbour as he hadn't had a truntable in years - he was well made up with it!) and also decided that the L75 was to good so sold the Gyro. Also made a few other amps (SS and valve, pre and power, phono stages etc) but then work got in the way meaning loads of travel so building things took a back seat (I don't think I mentioned that I was also rebuilding a 1972 VW camper van............) Getting close to the end now so you can all relax (those that are reading this anyway). Over the last few years I decided I wanted to get back into the Michell family so started to look out for an Orbe, plus had an itch to buy a fully built valve amp. Plus I had been using the Quad speakers for many years and decided that a change was needed in this area. I purchased an Orbe (full version) but had some strange issues with it and believed it was the arm so bought a good priced Audio Note Arm 1 V2 to use - did not solve the problem. Spent some time talking to Michell and ended up sending them the PSU - which ended up being the issue - now runs perfectly. Also replinthed the L75 as the last plinth I made was mahoosive and far to big for the rack - cheated and purchased a ready made plinth so the Orbe and the L75 now sit side-by-side. Replaced the Audiolab 8000a (which I still have) and bought a Pure Sounds A30 which is brilliant for the money. Plus sold the Quad speakers and bought a pair of Reiver Jenna's which work very well in the listening room even though the room is fairly small. Some more box swapping went on, so using as phono amps a Firebottle OPT II for the Gyro and a Cairn Boost for the L75. Impressed with both of these stages. I use headphones now and again and as the Pure Sound doesn't have this facility I purchased a Myryad Z40 for this but now use it as a pre and the A30 as a power amp - works very well to my ears! Last but not least, this month I upgraded the arm on the Gyro from the Audio Note arm to an SME V - a match made in heaven visually and sonically (Also changed the cart on the L75 to a rare Denon DL103M - very impressed with the detail this cart can pull out and works so well with the Cairn Boost) Digitally I have been behind the curve - in the middle '80s I bought a Sony Diskman and used that until the girlfriend bust it (having had it for 10 years with no issues). Then in the middle '90's bought a Philips DCC700 player - very nice sound to be honest, but sold it on after a few years. I have been using PI's for multimedia duties for many years and then decided to see how they work for streaming music so got a 3B and an IQAudio Pi-Dac+ and using Spotify, Tidal and a NAS (Pi based) with many music files on it joined the modern age - very pleased with it and does a very good job to be honest. That's all folks!!!
