Oh, boy!
I've tried sooooo many headphone amps over the years. To be quite frank, most of them are just plain bullshit. I do have some respect for the Schiit Asgard 2.
When I have money I'll start seeking for another AP10H. This will be my endgame headphone amp.
Always found AP10H to have the most gentle and musical flow, out of all the SS amps I've had.

Now available in white for a premium. I am off headphones now but I bet it would look awesome in white. Probably sound better too because White apparently works wonders for NAC A5!

I believe there's good reason for this. With the A4, whatever it was that made black A4 'black' apparently reacted with the copper and made it go off down it's length - seen it so pretty well factual to me. The white A4 didn't go off as quickly i remember. The whole thing about the stiff jacket used in A5 was to do with a chemically inert insulation so I'm told. A5 in theory, shouldn't go off over it's thirty year life. Why it 'sounds' the way it does I have no idea and I don't think Paul Miller does these kinds of tests on cables these days. he used to test them out to rf frequencies and it's behaviour here that seemed to make the differences I gather.. A5 sounds different to other 2.5mm cables and I have no idea why...
The NVA circuit works superbly as a headphone amp. It's buffered in series, but this can be altered if the headphones absorb the amp output (higher impedance types) but these buffers need to be there if ear and low-impedance phones aren't to be irreparably damaged due to accidental high volume levels.

I’ve seen this “rot” effects on A4 with my own eyes and more than once too. Near the plugs it can get really nasty and I’d be surprised if it didn’t affect conductivity.

No longer going to bother getting AP10H. I really like my Asgard 2.

Can’t argue with that. I really liked mine. Very well made too.

The Asgard is very much my endgame SS headphone amp. Still plan on trying an OTL headphone amp, something like a Darkvoice 336se or Schitt Vahalla 2.

I only sold it because I was getting out of serious headphone listening altogether. Otherwise I’d have kept it.
