We have had our garden shed sized up by thieves again as they left tell tale clues such as leaving the bolt on the back gate unbolted and the latch was off. The had to climb over and could not open it however as they would need a large crowbar to get the huge padlock off. This has happened before and they came back and stole our bikes so this time I have taken precautions. Our bikes are behind another locked shed door but i have used a motorbike ground anchor bolted to a brick wall with a huge motorbike Oxford link chain. This will cause them a massive problem....? But we did get paranoid about the thieving bastards so on the other side of the gate I have prepared an anti theft device. This consists of a very nasty spiky tree and some metal objects that will clatter if they hit them. Then we have rows of glass jars piled up which will make a hell of a racket. I overlook the garden so will have a camera with night time photo option on it and a large flash at the ready. Just hope a bloody cat doesn't jump over the gate!

Carpet grip strip is a fantastic weapon against those with bad intent. I have put it (at my old place years ago) at the top of the gate on the back side or it, out of view. When they grab at it, it cuts them, leaving their DNA at the scene. I never needed it but a neighbor's house was ransacked and the stole a very pricey watch. Police linked the DNA off the grip strip off his gate and linked the offender to 27 other crimes. Daft but true.

Personally, I think I would move the bikes and anything valuable into the house if at all possible. One option would then be to leave the shed open, and the gate. They will come and see there is nothing, and will leave you alone, for a while.

I'd put the bikes inside and a bomb in the shed.
Having worked in the bike trade and supplied locks for approval testing I'd warn anything under 19mm thick is a waste of time for bolt cutters and battery powered angle grinders will go through anything except the hardest cobalt steel, and no bike locks use this.
I've seen even the kryptonite fagedaboutit fail under 36" croppers.

Get an ear piercing one. They are brutal. We have them at work on the ticket machines. I forgot to switch one off before I opened it up and it hurt.

Shed alarms are a good idea. You can get wirelessly linked alarm systems for very little money these days ( this one is particularly good) connected wirelessly to main alarms as well as window alarms (non defeatable by design...you break a window and they're going to go off), reinforced window bars, hidden hardened steel deadlock door pins (remove hinges and the door will remain solidly in place) plus a few sneaky other layers of security. You have to go to these lengths, not to make it impossible (there's no such thing) but to make it so hard, they'd not bother as easier pickings are to be had elsewhere. In bikes I always use huge hardened link chains, ground anchors, monster disc locks and additional steel cable locks plus additional garage security making it damned near impossible due to the length of time needed to defeat that lot...oh and the obligatory linked alarm system. For good measure, a particularly vicious cocker spaniel is present at all times who will lick to death anyone managing to get in.

I have alarm mines around my garage, some with trip wires, others on doors.
Perfectly legal using 12 gauge blanks.
I accidentally set one off, scared the sh*t out of me and I knew it was there, hell of a bang, sure to wake you, and the neighbors!
About £15 each.

Pressure pad just inside the shed door, when they step on it a razor sharp scimitar swings out, chops the head clean off. If there's more than one and the remainder manage get the bikes out, then that triggers a massive stone ball that comes rolling down the yard and crushes them.
You can get most of that in B&Q.

Putting trellis on top of fences and gates deters most crims from entering a garden and the flimsier it is the better it works as it makes plenty of noise.
As someone else has already said, Pyracantha forms an inpenetrable hedge and you will find out how much it hurts when you need to trim it. I used to get totally ripped to shreds pruning mine.

Got one of those compressed air can sirens. I use it on those call center scams from India, the ones for example who tell me in this thick Indian accent they are from the Johannesburg fraud department, one blast down the mouthpiece and they stop phonening.
