Had a few nibbles on the FB Monos, but it seems that the front panels are putting a lot of people off. So, I have worked out that the chassis is a 1907-B chassis as seen on Aliexpress etc. Anybody know where I can get two plain black “1907” fronts from? It may be cheaper just to buy two new cases, and throw away the bits I don’t want. Seems a bit wasteful though. What's wrong with the front panels? Can't remember what they look like

They are not to everybody’s taste. They have a big round sticker covering where the volume control should be.

I can get a new case for £20 + post. I have contacted a seller on eBay to see if I can get the front panel separately. Acrylic is a thought though...

New panels have been ordered. I will need to drill two holes, and then swap them over when they arrive.

If the panels are received, and are the correct ones, then I shall ask Alan.

Phase one complete. New faceplate on the FB Mono. Just one more to modify slightly to make it fit. Thoughts on the finish? The fasteners are slightly off centre in the holes, but I did not want to modify the cases too much. I need suggestions for a power switch now, as the one fitted is threaded into the front plate.

I have ordered the power switches. Nice amber ones.
I need to drill a 19mm hole through both panels now. Bearing in mind I will be using the tool twice, possibly three times, what is the most appropriate tool to do this? A 19mm carbide hole saw, a bi-metallic HSS hole saw, or a 19mm drill bit?

Drill bit on a pillar drill would be best as at 19mm you are gonna get some wild vibrations! Pick up a use done for £40 then sell it for the same when done. Loads on eBay and FB marketplace

I've always found it best to start small and work up to the size you want in 2mm increments even with 10mm thick panels. You need a lot of drill bits though.

Easiest way is to use a starrett cutter.

We have recently invested in nice thee D printer so we can design customers own specific panels and enclosures and send them fully complete model for their approval, making changes or adding detail is pretty simple.
We are living in exciting times currently

MrC what's the printing media, I assume plastic rather than SLM? So for CAD file approval only?

Id still probably use a step drill upto 10mm thick, certainly not on anything thicker or more than 20mm diameter though.

I honestly thought step drills were for sheet metal?

Simon
You are correct the approval piece is plastic but to scale and accuracy.
We also have the machining capability as well, but that is another company that is part of the group, small high precision up to 250 off batch work. Though the case work is good, but to machine it from scratch would to prohibitive to sell commercial compared to the mass churned out Chinese modules, but for bespoke amplifiers and dac's it is part of the overall cost. Plus it is totally British and that is a big tick these days quality is not like Chord bling, I would describe it as understated elegance.
just putting the finishing touches to some long promised mono blocks, when I have finished the design will post pictures of the 3D mock up

Power button holes drilled, and buttons added. Now i just need to wire them up, and fit the panels. The big question is, should I add some stickers, or leave them plain?

Power button in the middle of you wanted to leave them plain? Transformer made central position impossible. You will be pleased to know they are amber coloured rings, and not at all bright. I best order the stickers then...

By the way, I did the 19mm holes with a cordless drill and a tungsten carbide tipped hole cutter, slowly, using WD40 as a cutting lubricant. I took my time, and I am pleased to say that they have come out perfectly. A centre punch was used to make sure that the drill did not wonder, and I covered the front in Aluminium tape to make sure they did not get marked.
I looked for a pillar drill, but they were over €100 second hand. Not worth it for two holes.

Hard to find one in the country side. Most get dumped at the tip, where the guy who works there keeps them for himself, fixes them and sells them later.

Both switches fitted, and wired up.. Lights out, and powered up.... Finally the amps are getting the looks to match their sound quality. Orange/Amber power buttons chosen to match the valve "glow" on the inside,
