Well not really. I was given a duff 211 transmitting valve and hatched a plan. Raiding the junk box and the LED draws I came up with this unusual table lamp.

The same, but opposite! I made two of these; squirrel cage bulbs, bike brake disc spacers, aly rod and wooden bowls from a charity shop. I run them in series, as the filaments vibrated at 240 volts, and they were too bright anyway. I took them to Scalford one year, and sat in front of a friend's system they got more interest than his gear, as people kept asking what amps they were! 082 by Richard Crawley, on Flickr

Apart from the bulbs, which were discounted at Next, and two cheap switches, I already had everything else. The spacers I made years earlier for a motorbike I was building, but didn't complete, commercially it would be expensive to produce. I have some more of those bulbs, and some fridge bulbs, and a plan! Combine them all in one chassis, with a couple of meters (which I have) and it will look like 300Bs and 6SN7s.

Looks very steampunk, which is somethingbim liking at the moment

Definitely a business idea here as I am sure lots of Audiophile would love to have something like this. Would make an interesting decorative feature in your man cave and bring about a bit of Higgy!

Returning to Alan's original lamp, how bright is a 211 in normal use? I used to have 845s, and they used to light up the room! Would running them with just the heaters connected do the same?

Could an old valve be mounted into a valve base, then attached to a wall wart to make a stand alone lamp?
I know it's a bit excessive bit its pretty simple in the idea

845's need 32W on the heater so it would be a chunky wall wart
