Only had one. Most people will find these ugly and rather unattractive to look at. Through my eyes they are unique. Each to their own, hey! Not the most dynamic but very musical sounding. S.  |

The looks put me off too and I always suspected they were over-rated. Then I had a listen to one at a bake off. Very impressive, at least on the strength of that fairly short audition. Not what I expected at all. A bit like the original Naim Nait but with bigger balls.

The looks put EVERYONE off but underneath, some of their amps were really nice. We had the baby integrated they had out (Axiom?) and despite the heavily toned down appearance and good sonics, it didn't appeal to the punters and we had to sell it off  |

I reckon someone could do well relaunching the Kraken with a face lift. It’s a sissy size that would be popular today.

You could always put a bag over it. I think I'd need to if I owned one. Or at least swap the heatsinks for normal ones and scratch off all the nasty gothic lettering.

It’s those heat sinks that make it look like a vampire bat. Oh and the green Hammerite isn’t really me. Still, it’s an interesting amp Andy clearly beautifully made inside. |

Give the Kraken a try if you ever come across one. There also was the MK2 version which looked worse to my eyes.

I'm pretty sure of that... as I designed it! Not my finest hour... I didn't like them and wanted to go for more conventional circuitry in the end but I was overruled. "It's more than good enough at the price point Jez and we don't want it to be too good and beat the Kraken" Kraken was over double the price IIRC. |
