The 1042 uses a FG stylus profile, I believe?

If you can afford it and you're going to get the enjoyment out of it then it's no big deal. It was the sending it off an waiting for it to come back that did for me. At least you can order an MM stylus off the internet and have it there the next day.

Yup, I get that and I will be adding a MM to the ranks in the near future, now the Bigbottle has the capability to run either. I also want to prolong the life of the Kb so it makes sense to have a spare cartridge to try new to me vinyl.

The trouble with an MC is when the tip wears out you have to buy a whole new cartridge or send the old one off somewhere to be re-tipped, expensive hassle. With MM you just get a new one and slot it in, no need to even take the cart off the arm. That's why I went back to MM. Now though the replacement styli for good MMs are silly money so I gave the whole thing up as a bad job. Yes, I agree that it gets quite pricey but I don't care, the Kb will be getting a FGS stylus in the future and I wont worry one bit about it. This is where my comment about Fritz comes from.

As a side dish.......
IMHO Nowt tracks as well as a FGS needle.
This fuker could track Jon Snow - North of the Wall.
Unflappable, I've thrown Ceilidhs (Party's to you English) that rocked the croft too it's foundations...
FGS....never wobbled.

Tried most of the others too.

I have heard that the FGS is quite a wide profile.co.pared.to.some, and the best tracking cartridges use the micro line type stylus, as it is thinner.

Yes, I agree that it gets quite pricey but I don't care, the Kb will be getting a FGS stylus in the future and I wont worry one bit about it. You're in for a treat and a shock too when you re-tip your Kontrapunkt B with the Fritz Gyger S stylus. I've never heard vinyl replay like it when my Cadenza Black received the FGS re-tip treatment. You discover Hi-fidelity in the very true sense of the word, neutrality, accurate and serious detail retrieval, coupled with recording, vocal and instrumental information, texture, timbre as they really are. Best money I ever spent on a cartridge. Was like I'd gone up to one of Ortofons top high end carts, I'm not kidding. BUT, as I have said numerous times, you have to pay meticulous attention to set up and if you can then dial it via vta then great, that's why I'll only ever have an arm with on the fly vta, makes it so much easier, smoother to dial in and find, you hear when it's 'in'! bingo! THE FGS is a very sophisticated stylus profile, made to replicate the cutting head, hence it is fussy and has to be set up right, but it's more than worth it - the reward !........

The 1042 is a cracking machine. Because of the stylus it needs a lot of care setting it up. When you get it right you'll smile. Most people throw it on , then say it's nothing special. Those people can send their 1042's to me. Ta.
