Lots of good things this year, including acquiring a gorgeous turntable. For me though, the best moment was refurbing my Spicas in Zebrano Negro veneer. They will be with me for life.
What’s your top hifi moment of the year?

I purchased a NVA P90sa from Macca and then had it upgraded with a new stepped attenuator and silver wiring. My only hifi moment of 2019.

Finally getting my New Radford STA-25 after a 9 month waiting list.
I'm glad to report the wait was well worth it.

Not a biggie in outright hi-fi buying terms but I bought a couple of non working CD players and fitted new lasers to them and are now working perfectly. Never done one before fearing that they need all sorts of dextrous skills and fannying about with a scope to set them up, but they have already had that done at the factory. It was a fear of the unknown but don't have any fear of them now and that is a personal triumph for me.

Kii Three's which are a plane above most people's speakers. Chord Electronics in general demonstrated rather better than I've heard them in the past. Far nearer to my level but still out of reach, ATC 45A's. Rega 10/Apheta 3 which may well be too clear and revealing of the often Sh#t source vinyl for many but which is amazing with a well produced and made record..

Being banned from AoS. More time spent listening, and less time spent reading about listening.

The Dali Zensor 3 Speakers. One of the most musically satisfying speakers I have heard.

Getting the Bastanis properly dialled in. Best speakers I've had at home.

Just wondering what the differences were. I had not listened to my system for a little while since I had a problem with the power amp (sorted now) so it was not easy to do a comparison. I will say the system sounds great now, and I'm sure clarity has improved but I it's on of those memory related moments and I'm not very good at that.

I really like tne approach Paul has taken with NVA. First he’s clearly thinking of his existing customers. Second, he’s focusing more on quality parts. I genuinely hope he does well.

I rejigged my whole system (practically) this year.
The Mordaunt Short Performance 880 speakers have been a revelation and are imho the last speakers anyone should need. The discovery of how good Neurochrome gear is, has also been just as significant.
However, there was a standout moment when Jimbo brought round his Rodrigo Y Gabriella LP and we listened to "FOC"
No system I have ever heard, has done what mine did in that moment and the shock of how good the vinyl sounded has resonated with Jim and myself since.
This was by far the most satisfying moment as even though the track was phenomenal, the feeling of the accumulated effect of all the work I've put into upgrading finally paid off.
Secondly, I have to say that watching this place grow from the seed Andrew planted, has been really satisfying too.
We may still only be in our infancy but I enjoy this forum more than any other.

For me it was finally getting exactly the sound I wanted with the DCB1 pre, Spotfire cables, Krell KSA50S and JM Lab 926 speakers. Okay so it only lasted a couple of months until the Krell went bad, but I sort of feel like I reached what I thought was an impossible goal after 30 years and there's nothing left to chase. The last scales of hi-fi bullshit fell from my eyes, which is kind of liberating in a way. And it is still a great sounding system with the other Krell slotted in instead.

I found the caps I took out for the ANs. If you can get down here befor 20/01/19, I'll stick them in for you but i suspect it won't have the same effect that your ksa50 gave you. As a heads up, Alan is going to have a Neurochrome 86 built in the near future. If I were you, I'd ask for a lend and have a listen. Ok, the power is less than the ksa100 but I think you'll be mighty surprised at what you hear.

I would like to give one a try. Thought Alan already built himself one though?

I would like to give one a try. Thought Alan already built himself one though? He has but he managed to nab a couple of 86 boards. One needed attention which he has applied and it's now fully refurbished. I'm not saying buy it, I'm saying try it and see what you think BTW. Sonically, they are all very very similar as when you get to that level of transparency, it can't be anything else. There is now also a bonafide buffer board which by all accounts pisses on anything out there, if the measurements are anything to judge by. We're talking ridiculous levels of performance. This guy is going to be too expensive in the near future.

'The Dream' speaker leads. I needed 9m so definitely not cheap, but putting the old ones back in made the system sound broken.

I would like to give one a try. Thought Alan already built himself one though? I bought the 286 amplifier which is a keeper. I acquired two 86 boards, both of which didn't work. One was fortunately an easy repair but the other needs ALL the silicon replacing. That's a job for January, I have ordered a case which will take time to arrive.

Auralex platforms for my MBL speakers to sit and gently wobble on, sort of Townshend Podiums for the hard of spending. Defo took the speakers to the next step up, which did surprise me. ... Of course, that has now got me wondering about spending the big dosh on Townshend Podiums.

Nothing satisfying just an endless string of overhyped, overpriced, buy me I'm pretty kit. Which by all accounts are the best the reviewers have heard, all which leave me absolutely cold, and with the conclusion that somehow Audiophiles have more money than sense.
One exception was the Wharfedale Linton Heritage, I nearly bought them, then a look at my meger finances, and a reality check, brought me back down to earth.

Finally getting my hands on my completely overhauled Garrard 401 I completely rebuilt the thing and had Martin Bastin service it and install his bespoke plinths. I added a SME V-12 and all I've done is listen to vinyl since!

For me it was finishing my DCB1 build and then adding better components bit by bit to see what the changes were. Attempting something completely new- electronics and getting an amazing sounding preamp out of it for less than £800 (probably).
Also finding out I really enjoyed the challenges and process of DIY audio, so a bit of a new hobby. Still learning!
