True to me plan, I have made a start on the new build. Only managed a couple of hours but made some decent progress. In order to give this the the best chance of holding its own against the upcoming competition, I have matched every single component. Sweet Christmas, what a ball ache. They are the absolute correct values and they are matched to the other channel. I'm gonna have to give it a rest now as I'm knackered. More soon.

Managed to get a bit more done before I really did have to down tools. Just a mock up with the valves In, just to have a measure and make sure they fit the casework comfortably, which the will

I see you've fitted the 4 little black caps in the middle. These have changed to 1x 1nF, you might like to check.

Yes, i fitted 4x 1nf instead of 2x 1nf. doesnt matter which two i take out does it. Glad i recalled them, especially as i still haven't figured out where the missing capacitor goes either.

Didn't manage to get anything done today so i thought i would have a listen to the valves i bought via Alan's BBMK2 I am pleasantly surprised by the weight the GE ECC83 is throwing about and the two Philips PCC88 seems to compliment it well. I have just nabbed a pair of 1960's Tesla PCC88 valves for.......£9 lol!! NOS, tested and checked by a very trusted guy on ebay. Based in Poland and doesn't usually advertise on eBay.uk as he doesn't like posting them too far. A brief chat and they are on the way. Nifty Also have my eye on a pair of ECC83's from a very rare manufacturer. I have been looking for one for a few years so for two to come up is just bonkers. It's bids, so we will have to wait and see. Last one i saw went for....£220 + P&P I'm not telling you what it is lol

Who is the vendor in Poland? He just a normal guy rather than vendor. He sells bits rather than just valves but he had them. I know him only as "doan12"

That's it. I've gone as far as I can now. Literally nothing else available to do as I've just broken my fine solder tip so the Jfets will have to wait. Those little 10nf caps I had to take out were an Utter bitch. Also, in one of the pics you'll see a surface mounted axial cap. This was missed from the prototype pcb which is now likely to never be put right. Shame that. Anyway, happy with the work. Neat and tidy and just needs the last bits to arrive.

Got this tested and checked by Alan and pleased to say, apart from the LEDS being in the wrong way round (tit), everything was hunky dory. Square wave looks acceptable too. Must admit, I am a bit loathed to let this phonostage retire and consign it to history. I'm going to revisit getting it sorted out from a PCB layout standpoint in the new year and offer it as a DIY project. Hopefully, SQ or someone he knows may be able to help get the last push done and then we'll see where we are. This original sold over 75 boards and they went worldwide so it's a pisser that nobody decided to feedback on it. Not to worry, this one is better 😆

Here the casework as I'm not sure if I'd already shared it. I'll either put an aluminium or coloured acrylic roundel in the space where the volume knob is or just replace the whole front panel.
