You're not wrong - I'm keeping too many amps atm and am running out of space. I've cleared a shelf in the bedroom for overflow! Oli's 4 shelf stand would be no use, though, I've nowhere to put it.
2 amps and a DAC on ebay atm, that should help clear a bit of room.

Current stack. Top to bottom ... Khozmo passive pre (arrived a few days ago) Holo Audio Spring Level 2 R-2R DAC (arrived today) PrimaLuna Prologue 5 (been around for well over a year now) fitted with a quad of GE USA 6L6 and TAD input tubes. All sounding rather good.

I'm beginning to suspect that the DAC is sufficiently far ahead of any I've previously heard that it's going to take a while to get my head round it.
It's only been plumbed in a couple of hours, and maybe it needed warming up, or maybe I'm having to learn how to listen to what it does, but it becomes more and more fascinating as time goes by.
It's a good'un.

Yes, the Holo DAC (I keep thinking of the Holo Deck in Star Trek TNG!) was the one very recently on ebay, auction ended last Sunday, iirc.
Some more listening hours on it now and I am increasingly impressed with it. It's way beyond any DAC I've heard before. Previous systems hadn't noticeably struck me as having a thinned out soundstage, but with the Holo the whole presentation is more solid and grounded. More resolution, too, but not explicitly thrown at me, but just there for me to focus on if I want. Rustling of music scores as pages are turned and the slight creaking of chairs as musicians move on very familiar recordings, where tf did they come from?!

I saw someone reviewing the Holo Springs May dac, sorry Jerry it's the model above yours, and was very impressed with the sound stage, never hearing it's like before.

No worries, my one gets good reviews, too. Must admit, a Holo May early next year seems a tempting idea!

I remember hearing Prima Luna for the first time at a show when Absolute Sounds were the distributor (they don't appear to do the brand any longer), came away impressed. That was at a time when I really preferred ss amps, yet these days I keep looking at valves, must be an age thing. Hope you like them Jerry.

And the PL 7 Monos have arrived. 1st attempt at plumbing them in. Didn't really work for me aesthetically. And not very convenient for accessing rear connections. Re-arranged and ready for valve rolling, with my back-up solid state amp ready for action in case of a heatwave.... I knew they came with a fairly recent new set of KT88 power valves but didn't know what make. Bit of a disappointment when they turned out to be PL's own rebrand! .... but quite surprised how good they sounded. The Monos with PL rebrands were obviously better in some ways than the old 5 Stereo with my choice of valves. Maybe I just make bad choices. Then again I never got round to trying the 5 with KT88. ... so many variables, that's one of the great things about PL power amps with their autobias circuitry able to accommodate so many type of valves, they are a whole bunch of different amps in one. I love the 5, which is why I chose to go to the 7s for an upgrade. The 7s seem to bring improved definition, clarity, imaging and greater authority. Definitely a step up from an already excellent amp. Pretty much the same but better - which is exactly what I wanted. Anyway, much experimentation and listening ahead. But I think these are keepers*. (* Keeper may not mean the same in my terminology as it does in yours ). And a buyer already lined up for the 5.

Jerry definition. 'Keeper = anything that stays more than 90 days'
Really glad they are a step up from the 5.

No, Alan is spot on, ,I think. 90 days is a good definition of medium term keeper.
Long term keeper = 1 year+. Keeper = 5 years+ The PL5 was a long term keeper. My MBL speakers are keepers.
___
The All PL valve setup is very punchy, high impact, high def, rather forward. No prisoners taken. 10 years ago, probably even 5 years ago, I think I'd have loved it. Now I have mellowed a bit and prefer a more laidback presentation.
I swapped out the PL KT88 for 2 GE and 2 TAD 6L6GC valves in each mono amp... Fuller tonally, more 3D. Much more laidback. Too laidback. Swapped out the 2 TAD 6L6GC for 2 of the PL KT88 in each mono. Yup, that's it. Good compromise.
I also ended up replacing all of the 'small valves' with a random selection of ones I know I like from TAD, PSVANE, Matsushita.
I'll stay with this for a while as a good basis for further experimentation.
