I'm getting a bit back into CDs, at least ones not available streamed. So I thought I'd invest in something a bit more upmarket than my £37 Amazon Bargain. A Lexicon RT-10 silver disc player (CD, SACD, DVD). $3.5k back in the day. Currently playing a SACD. Sitting on top is one of my dedicated headphone stations; a Topping E30 DAC and L30ii headphone amp.

I think it uses a decent Pioneer transport. Most upmarket American players did then.

It's feeding into my WiiM Pro streamer thingy using Morrow Audio interconnects. .... I've not mentioned before that I'm using the WiiM.... and its room correction facility. 👌

Looks very nice Jerry, did wonder what you were buying when you mentioned an up market cd player, pleased you are liking it so far.

A comment made on a review of the Lexicon RT-10:-
Compared with my reference CD transport, the C.E.C. TL 2, the RT-10 fared remarkably well. Both players have AES/EBU outputs, so my A/B comparisons were on a level field. The C.E.C. has a more tubelike character, with slightly greater depth, a more relaxed and liquid midrange, and a larger but softer low bass. The RT-10 had a more matter-of-fact midrange presentation, better transient response, superior rhythmic pace, and tighter, better-defined low bass.
He does say AES/EBU is the way to go.

$3400 in 2004 or $7K in today's money and there's one on U.S ebay now for $258.75
Possibly a record for hi-fi depreciation?

Cd devices on the wain price wise. Can get a Kenwood 9010x for less than some speaker cable, which is bonkers.

I can only find two for sale right now, one in Italy, he's asking Euro 900, and one in USA for $585 Highest price for speaker cable on Ebay is 5 metres of Nordost - second hand - for ten grand GBP. Which is bonkers.

It's a bonkers bargain imo. It's a disposable item afaic, if it lasts a few months fine, likely it will last years of moderate usage.

At that price hard to say no, and it does look like it cost thousands.

The only XLR output is digital, no XLR analog output sockets. It sounds good on the RCAs.

I think XLR digital outputs are called AES/EBU, don't ask me why.

One is a close relation of a current fave. The other has been on my Curiosity List for decades, but I've no idea if I'll like it.
Oh, yeah, there's another one on the way as well. Hmm. That one was a Senility Selection. I'd forgotten I'd had one before and wasn't impressed 😐 .... still, it was cheap and that was then, this is now, my system is different now. Who knows? Not me. ASR was impressed by its measurements.....

Well it looks proper.
Years ago I went round some old boy's house to get a Sony turntable he'd advertised in the local paper, and he had a Rogers Cadet going into some ancient looking speakers with no badges and it was really good.
His source was some old tuner that looked like it pre-dated Edison. Never forgot that sound.

Well, yes, it does look proper old style hifi, doesn't it. Sadly, after I took the photo I cabled it up..... and it's dead on one channel. So it's boxed up ready to be posted back to the seller tomorrow. I've already received the refund. Just for the hell of it, I thought I'd plumb in one of the amps I've got up for sale, but that I have rather fond memories of.... Yup, it's the Technics SU A707 again. Top right. It's still a bit feeble, brash and confused on large scale music. But, by golly, it sounds stunningly beautiful on small scale music. (Which tbh is most of my listening). There is a pelucid transparent delicacy combined with a natural tonal richness. It's kind of a solid state version of Quad II valve monoblocks... ... as ridiculous as that sounds! 🤪 The Technics amp is no longer for sale. I think it might be a long term keeper 😲 one of those things it's nice to have available as an occasional alternative.

Good to see you experimenting with re-clocking. I’ll get me coat. Haha. Yes, I've been getting a bit obsessed with art deco style clocks recently. There's a dozen or more scattered around. Well, ok, maybe 20 or more. That's the nearest thing to reclocking that I'll ever get.

jandl100Jerry, give Robin (wizmax) on the Mav a PM as I know he had a Rogers 75 and 100. Pretty sure he still has atleast one of them in his spares room so would I'm sure be amenable to lending/selling one of them. I borrowed the 75 a few years back and remember it being a really nice full sounding amp.

Just put in a rather lowball offer on an amp on ebay and it's been accepted. And there's another amp in a few days time.... I'm easily distracted.
