The big difference is the lack of conical stylus. You actually get some detail with it.

Oli, i don't think you NEED a large investment in 'digital' these days. Loads-a-money on a dac for instance is mainly casework and facilities I maintain and yet there's still some dreck being sold. Next year I need to replace my main speakers, or flog 'em and tart up the now tatty old Spendors which sound better in this room. I have some turntable projects to finish off and than I really need to start flogging surplus stuff as I'll be in Sh#t street if we move the year after... I think you could be right dave

I think you could be right dave I think Dave is spot on. Hence my hesitation to buy a new DAC, that just ends up giving me a different flavour. I don’t want to go above €500 so I am probably better off just sticking with the SEG.

I've been slumming it in the workroom system with the bodged up twin supply QED Digit Opto I bought cheaply on AOS some years ago now. Positron supplies (fairly sophisticated in themselves but suffer leaky caps if mine is anything to go by) are hens teeth, so the 'second' supply is an original Caiman smps which Stan kindly sent me and to which I added an S-Booster from Mark Grant. It 'sounds' fine in twin-supply form (some internal caps on the dac board have been upgraded) but is red book only and I've no idea if it's crap by today's standards. Westie had the QED Reference version (twin supplies but in a nice slimline case) and found it not as good as today's fare, so I don't know really. I've used both my Denon's (1015 and 1520) direct in comparison and the basic 'tone' is similar (you can tell I don't listen like an audiophile any more these days - EEK!).
For me anyway, a Topping D30 is probably where I'd look currently, as I'd like the three inputs. For computer use, the D10 is a steal really, works from USB power very well and as the cheapo USB/SPDIF converter I use isn't available now it seems, would do brilliantly for this role on its own as it has an SPDIF output as well I gather...
I'd just like to remind you chaps that most of the work is on one or two chips these days and better brands can measure the Sh#t (or not) that comes out of various power supply types and can design safeguards as well as better lower-Sh#t supplies. hell, even Schiit finally got some modern test gear and their new digital stuff is improving in leaps and bounds it seems - looks good too and not made in China either...

Firstly I will likely get some feet to decouple my speakers from the floor and if I have some spare funds then I may also get a couple of Coherent Systems power cables to complete my loom.

I never clean contacts or plugs & socket. There's no real need as they are self cleaning at their contact areas merely through the surface to surface wiping action. It doesn't matter if they look grubby on the outside.

Maybe a few tweaks to my Tannoy external XO's, maybe some new binding posts and adding some instrinsic silver wiring. Maybe a little KT 88 tube rolling on my Sondex amp. But, overall just enjoying hunting down vinyl and listening to new music.

This year at some point move the system into the extension on the garage/outbuilding we are having built. Looking into mains treatments and finally purchase a nice piece of non audio looking rack for the system

I doubt I'll change anything. Might give the system a dust.

At the moment I am just really enjoying listening to my system following the upgrade of speakers. These Quadral's are something quite special!

I may actually have a few little bits to do this year that I hadn't expected, but when you follow the theory that "standing still is for the dead", I suppose that's to be expected.

Removing as much of the self induced vibrations within a turntable is always beneficial as it within any mechanical noise contained within a sensitive devices, though at the end of the day you are still moving a man made coil armature with a polished rock inside an non conforming plastic groove I guess anything helps

Making, one.
Disc magnet with holder to position over top of bearing journal, then disc with an array of button magnets to make the top element that positions underpowered around bearing shaft mounting stub. Just need to weigh parts and select magnets to get required clearance
