Lets get back to discussing the horror of Natara's hideous scratch on his Vinyl. ITS AN OUTRAGE I TELL YA!!! Thanks. For all of you who actually want to know 'What's Going On' with the scratch ( and the damaged inner sleeve) I've decided to keep the said items and live with the fact I just spent £125 on a damaged record which apparently is just plain uncool to discuss because it's all just part of being a 'genuine' audiophile. Now can we all please get back to discussing cables please! To be fair, I'm on your side with this. When chucking £125 at a piece of vinyl, I'd expect perfection and it's really unfortunate that you've ended up with less than perfection.

I've had a few.....
Simon & Garfuncle P,S,R & T. Is without doubt superb. Dire Straits B,I,A. is very mediocre.....I prefer the original. ?
Pays yer money ye take her choice.
REMEMBER THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE ORIGINAL.ALL ELSE IS AT BEST DIFFERENT.

Buy a first pressing original. I have a first press, one from the 80's and the Abbey Rd Half Speed remaster. I'm not a compulsive but do like to try out and own multiple copies of my very favourite LP's. I also have five copies of Kind of Blue, three of In a Silent Way and four of Exodus to name a few. Of course where possible I will always buy a first press but that isn't always best, perhaps 70% - 80% I have found sometimes that more modern releases mastered and recorded in digital can be improved upon the Analogue Productions remasters of Norah Jones catalogue and the ORG remasters of Diana Krall though of course not everyones cup of tea are far better than the 1st press copies. There are some also modern remasters that come very, very close to the early all analogue 1st press copies, again the Analogue Productions remasters of Nat King Cole are incredibly good. In my experience there are no absolute truths in music recording I have some really excellent digital remasters of early analogue Blue Note records.

I agree Mr H.
These days everyone seems to want to go back and tinker. Do you want Star Wars from 1977, or Star Wars with comedy jawas dicking about in the background?
ET the Extra Terrestrial as it was, or with all the guns digitally turned into walkie talkies?
If Leonardo da Vinci came back to life would his first task to be to add some comedy jawas dicking about in the background of the Mona Lisa? I think not.
All recordings are of their time, appreciate them for what they are, not what they could become if someone dicked about with them enough. I mean why not just re-record the whole album in 24/192 with better musicians and a better singer? Maybe re-write some of the lyrics too? It's all a bit daft IMO.

But it will never ever ever ever be..... The original. Now which would you prefer...Fake or The real deal ? The trouble with that type of thinking is that your'e always going to have a very narrow view. I have a Miles Davis - Round About Midnight original first press and the recent MFSL Remaster and there isn't a fag paper between them. I have a Blue Note first press of Grant Green's - Born To Be Blue and both the DMM and the recent Tone Poet releases are better. Let me give you this scenario too Don Rendell and Ian Carr's - Shades of Blue mono 1st press an average of £1,500 (if you can find a copy) so do you content yourself with listening to the one CD release from 2017 the Tidal or Youtube streams or do you buy the excellent or as you call it 'fake' non original Jazzman remastered vinyl release.

Who said you where less worthy than a music lover westie. Perhaps I could have made my answer less of a generalisation but I was responding to a particular post from a person who had insinuated in general terms with the statement " A lot of people bought one step titles to flip later when the price goes up so if they sell a faulty product on and have to refund they don't get any sympathy from genuine audiophiles." that I had bought a record to sell on later for profit so I responded also in general terms. "I'm not an Audiophile I'm a music lover and anyone who describes themselves as a 'genuine audiophile' sounds like a genuine nob head to me. It's very easy to insinuate in general terms so that you can deny things later but to me the inference was that I had done something that made me less worthy less 'genuine'. Here's a photo of me opening up the One Step on my birthday because it so expensive for me to buy that I had saved it for a special occasion not to wait until prices had gone up. I had ordered two copies one for someone else who then let me down so I sold it for a £125 I think a week after recieving it when it was still available so hardly profiteering and anyawy what if I was some of us have to buy and sell stuff to be able to afford expensive equipment I did so with most of my Naim gear to be able to afford it does that make me any less genuine. 33b7f09c-c931-42a5-b98e-de787ca3ff29 by You admit to having to buy and sell stuff to afford expensive equipment and own Naim. You are obviously an Audiophile. You can be a music lover as well. They are not mutually exclusive.
