What ingredient or ingredients would you add to your system.
wouldnt it be nice if we could just add elements to the sound, just like a recipe?
This thread was prompted by my discovery of the magic a bit of extra bass has brought to mine. I didn’t know I wanted more til I had it, so I just wondered if anyone else knew what they were seeking. I think it’s a question worth asking yourself if you’re looking to get to that ideal sound you have in your head.

All that's left for my journey is the room.
I am convinced I've hit the nail on the head system wise and all it need is a purpose built space to bring out the bits being hindered by the room it's in.
Nice to hear you've added a new dimension to your system. Amazing what good bass does for the rest of the frequency range.

I hope you don't have to go tinkering again when you get the new room. My system is well balanced in my current room. When I retire, I am contemplating building a detached log cabin/posh shed type thing to have a dedicated movie and music room.

A bottle of wine. Always works. Whisky takes less time for the same effect. That and a log fire.

Yes, I'm concerned that it may ruin everything but my kit is very neutral so hopefully it's a case of gains rather than pains.

Nice to hear you've added a new dimension to your system. Amazing what good bass does for the rest of the frequency range. That sums up exactly what’s different with the Mission sub over the REL. The latter just wasn’t sufficiently adjustable, and could only be used at a very low level and frequency. It gave deeper bass but it didn’t bring enhancements further up. The Mission does, and it sounds like it has a better internal amp tbh. I don’t get why so many folk diss subs. To me, the biggest issue for most systems is the way bass is reproduced in your room. Some folk put up with boom, whilst others opt for small speakers so as not to excite such resonances. Being able to dial it in seems like an obvious solution.

If HiFi was like cooking, I suspect most of us would have our food VERY highly spiced, or salted, or sweetened I reckon.. I mean, peeps who slum it like me sweeten our tea and add a little milk too - EEK!!!!! (same with coffee but I hate the stuff and was patronised Linn style by an otherwise friendly barista locally - "You've obviously never had proper coffee to drink...")

I'm just trying to imagine an audio equivalent to sausage, egg 'n chips with beans, but it's not quite coming together for me.

I agree, but I’d also add that those with spicy tastes would sometimes be in denial about it
