The dreaded DC hum is back…. Looks like I am going to have to build/buy a blocker for the 686.
Not happy.

Any thoughts on the ATL DC Blockers? I see they do a high power version, but surely that is overkill, when my amp is running a 4 or 5 Amp fuse?

It will be DC on the mains again. I have had this before. It comes and goes. It is worse in winter. Alan built me a DC blocker a few years ago when I had an Air, and after fitting that, the hum stopped. I just don’t know what the power handling of it is, so I took it back out, and the Hum was back. So, I think I need a decent DC blocker suitable for a power a,p.

Depends if you want to DIY I guess , the one I linked is 12a rated. As many sockets as you want as long as this is not exceeded as I understand it.

I can DIY it. A box, a couple of sockets to cut and a PCB to mount. Should be easy enough, but may be more expensive than the ATL V3, at 10A, which is double the fuse rating of my amp.

I need to see if I have room for the PCB in my amp.

Kevin, post a pic of the blocker I made you, including the inside. I doubt you need a bigger one.

Rating is dependent on the diodes used and I can't see them in the pic.

Looks like there is a bridge rectifier, part number S10VB6079 from what I could find/see.
So I am good to 10A @ 600V?
I assume there would be little benefit from having a bigger capacitor bank?

So if I have DC on my mains, is there any sonic benefit of a second DC blocker for the rest of the equipment, like the BB3 and Pre-amp?

I think the DC is likely to be being generated by my heat pump. So choices are a cold house, or DC blocker in the power line for the amp.
The one Alan built me is doing a great job as today the amplifier knows all of the words….

Today I plugged a new phono stage into my system. It dawned on me that since I had bought the DV-XX2 that I had not tried the Accession C and Enigma PSU1 with it in my system. It is pretty darn good if I am honest. I am going to try it driving the 686 directly in a bit. Will it replace my BB3? Of course not. I didn’t build the Accession C. If I do make it across to the Bake Off, I will bring it with me. Loading values are 75, 100, 300 and 500 ohm, so it should work with most cartridges.

Would be good to hear some of the Graham Slee stuff! I'd certainly welcome anything you can carry over

If you do come over, can you bring the DI-2014 with you? Would like to see what effect daisy chaining 2 has, if any.

I could ask to see if they would be prepared to loan a phono stage or similar out for the event. There is no harm in asking, and if they don’t want to, they could say no.

Out of interest, how much "better" is a BT2 compared to a DCB1, using the same SA?
