These things are heavy. 32kg each box, and three baby gates to pass. Anyway that is done, safely. I think I almost put my back out getting them up.the stairs though. They are unboxed, and in place on the end of the FB Monos. Three tracks into "Grafitti on the train" is too early to comment on them properly, but I am not disappointed with initial impressions at low volume. They will need 150 to loosen up, apparently. I will post some pictures when I work out how to reduce the image size on my phone. Are you using Tapatalk K?

Well I was not 100% certain that speakers would make a big difference. As good as the Frugels are, I realise I was missing a bit of detail from the single driver design. I am still at relatively low volume as Mrs H is working from home and on a call. I can’t wait for tonight, when I can give them a bit of volume.

They are very pretty and once you turn the wick up, the Frugals will be in their way

Even at low volumes, they do scale very well. This never happened with the FH3s as they needed a bit of volume to work, properly. I have fitted the Mod 86s back in. There is an expression somewhere that goes along the lines of “as happy as a pig in”, and I think that would describe me well at the moment. No hint of brightness, excellent tone, clarity and image width.

I know there are a lot of Frugal fans out there but when I tried them, I was massively underwhelmed These speakers andbthe 86s may just show you 'how much' you were missing

It is a superb combination. I am streaming all sorts of stuff from Tidal, and I can’t fault the music I am hearing. The best bit is I don’t need to go out any time soon!

Can only applaud you for taking a punt on some gear you may never have considered before. Now, just need to get your preamp up to scratch lol

I have always fancied a set of big floor standers. All the reviews said the same thing. It was a no brainier really. The pre won’t be changing much. I have started the amp project, and no other boxes will be bought until it is finished.

You dont need to change it, just get that pot out of it It'll unlock a decent upgrade, once you are ready obviously

News, from Communique has just popped up on my random stream. F@#$ me. I have not heard it this good for a long time, certainly the best sound I have had in my room.

When this COVID-19 malarkey is over, I may see if I can get OldPinkMan up here with his AHB2 to see what they are really capable of.

I keep managing to talk myself out of buying an AHB2. That may not last. Although I think there is a waiting list at the moment anyway.

It's an amplifier that was high on my list.
Macca, just get one.

The wife and daughter have gone outside. Eric Clapton - Unplugged on vinyl is currently spinning. Such a big, detailed sound is being presented to me.
Awesome.
No hint of brightness, as per some of the previous Triangle speakers (apparently). They also seem happy with 40W from my amps at the moment, certainly for the volume levels I am using at the moment.

Be interesting to see which amp you prefer, Firebottle or 86. Pleased you're enjoying them though.

I thought that amp would be quite happy with them. The whole 'brightness' thing is bollocks anyway. You stick a mediocre amp on the end of very good speakers, the speakers show up the amplifier for what it is. People call it brightness but really it's distortion.

I need to try the 10P soon. That will enable me to sell two sets of amps to free up the funds to build the beast. If I don’t like it, then a plan B is required.

Well, it looks like the Antals are staying. The wife told me she prefers the looks of the Antal over the FH3. That was an “EZ” decision then.
To be honest, I am surprised as the Antal are just huge black boxes in comparison to the FH3.
