lots of budget stuff from the past is still playing music today and still sounding as good as ever. Here’s some of the bits I would still use and enjoy today.

Probably loads more, but at least it’s a start

The venerable Pioneer stable platter CD players can still hold their own even today, although the lasers are coming to the age when they are failing. Another common issue is the lens falling out especially during transit and you might be lucky with a TINY drop of glue putting it back in place. I bought one off ebay last night and won't be surprised if I have to put the lens back in after the courier has manhandled it.
