If he believes in placebo effect. Then why an earth does he own those lovely Harbeth speakers and Luxman amp? He should sell the lot and get a midi JVC system

It's the 100% certain explanation to you lot hearing things that aren't even possible! Explain to me why they are not possible, Jez. Do you understand the intricacies of how hearing works?, do you understand how the brain interprets things? do you understand the psychology behind music enjoyment? I am not for one moment doubting you are an excellent electronics engineer, but I doubt you are a doctor of all things, so there is no way on earth that you can say that something isn't possible other than from a purely electronics engineering perspective.

THAT IS THE POINT!!!!!! I can therefore say with 100% certainty that some things have an effect and others are impossible. Now "the psychology behind music enjoyment" is a very powerful thing. There can be no doubting this. It is precisely this which causes, through placebo effect and expectation bias etc, EVERYTHING you report about changes due to the impossible.

It's the 100% certain explanation to you lot hearing things that aren't even possible! I thought that you had signed up to the subjectivist ethos of this place...Obviously You just cannot help yourself. Correct. As an electronic engineer who specialises in the design of hi fi equipment and has done for decades I cannot stand by and say nothing whilst people make claims as ridiculous as the existence of unicorns or pixies.... for many of the claims made are literally that ridiculous and if only the protagonists would learn something about electronic and electrical engineering they would laugh at the things they've been saying! Zero knowledge of a very complicated subject does not entitle one to "make things up" as a substitute for said knowledge! eg I believe PaulD said he was computer expert or some such?... how should he react/what would he think if someone who said they know nowt about computers beyond how to use Facebook INSISTED that placing a carrot on top of a server increased data transfer speeds? And then went on to say "I don't care if you have a Bsc in computer science and 30 years industry experience, if you don't believe that the carrot improves data transfer then you know nowt pal"

Where has it gotten you in the end... Banned....perhaps you might adopt the live and let live mantra.

However, whilst I do work in IT and maybe someone might call me an expert, my experience is in the important part of IT, which is the service element, not the technical. However, if someone was to come and insisted that a carrot on top of a service increased data transfer speeds, then I would keep and open mind and try it. I might in the background think that there idea is a little silly, but unlike, but I certainly wouldn't tell them that!

Probably my fault for not publicising it enough, but we followed SavvyPaul's approach at HFS in banning any ad hominem towards any other forum folk. Our old rule (my responsibility) was that we couldn't talk about other forums or their people. It seemed too restrictive so when Savvy took his stance, it seemed like a more progressive way to allow discussion without any aggro. I hope that makes a bit more sense. I know you're not one to diss other folk willy nilly, so I wanted to explain.
