You don't have to. I've just told you. Mods were called mods because they listened to 'modern' jazz in London before the sixties. They wore Italian suits. All mods came from that. Your work bloke might say no , but if he does he'll be wrong.

Was The Jam punks? I thought they were mods? It's all very confusing and I was too young at the time. I was thinking of The Kinks' original version. 'You Really Got Me' was the first proper punk record, he says controversially.

I'd have thought mod was just a fashion thing, clothes, shoes and hair, and what music they liked wasn't really relevant? Whereas punk was both a distinctive type of music and a fashion thing as well.
I mean the Jam were mods in how they looked but there's no such thing as 'mod music', whereas 'punk music' is a commonly used term.

Hands up i know nothing about them but i know it influenced fashion & decor of the time. I was more interested in the late sixties when all that Sh#t had died off..

The WHO actually had nothing to do with influencing Mods. It was the other way round. Kit Lambert saw some Mods in the audience one night. They were drunk and were dancing ad mods did , taking the piss out of the group. Lambert watched them and after the concert told the Who that he saw their future. He then taught Daltrey to dance like Mods and changed their image... and the rest is history.

They weren't called The Who then, they were still The High Numbers. That's about the same time as Elton John was the piano player in my regular pub, the Northwood Hills Hotel. He was a weedy little bloke with a piano in the corner who used to get peanuts and dog ends flicked at him.
