I pressed something the other week that necessitated calling out the IT guy to sort out the NAS. Now id did something again, this time was looking into the Cloud storage that came with my PC. The upshot was I must have caused a serious problem that perplexed me. I tried the system restore... Did not work, then decided to delete what was in my music folder, and to copy things from the NAS (which is working 100% now), could not get it to copy, so I downloaded the music folder, but was taking far too long (I am not the most patient person), so decided after few hours to stop it and to use the portable drive and to add the last 2 weeks FLAC files to it, that I saved on the PC. So, unable to go back to sleep at 5am this morning, set about preparing the music folder, making sure I had nothing in it, ran Audirvana, so it would see there was no music in its library. Plugged in the portable drive that was fully updated, and copied over its contents. When it was done, I started Audirvana, and it synced all the FLAC files, put them in order, the library was the same as before all the problems happened. Backups are a godsend and essential, especially if one has a fair bit of music etc update...Have just uninstalled OneDrive and managed to find the end subscription. PC is my only music source, so was a tad worried about speed and lost files

I was forever having problems with my pc, that is why I purchased the Eversolo to bring with me here to Cambodia. I have been using it for 3 months and as yet no problems when playing files, and only once with streaming, but that was due to at weak internet connection. It also was easier to transport, one box instead of three (pc, monitor and dac). And just to p--s you all off, the weather here is wonderful, two fans going at the moment, one on me and the other on the amplifier.

it has made me seriously think about my digital files, 831 of them (so not to many) may look into another piece of kit to play them, and control it from the Pc, like a Melco or something

You do the right thing in taking care to back up. 2 or 3 years ago I had hundreds of albums ripped to flac and stored on a QNAP NAS with twin hard drives. Then I had further back ups on a portable hard drive. The QNAP got attacked by a Russian ransomware virus. Apparently if you paid the ransom they would give you a key to unlock the files. They had specifically targeted QNAP and found a way round their protection software. Anyway.. at that point I decided to switch to streaming (Qobuz). I did eventually pick up a cheap NAS, ditched the old one along with the infected hard drive. So I put my files on this, but don’t connect it to the internet. I use a SOtM streamer along with Roon, so I can stream from the internet but still access local files. The value of Roon is always debatable, but I like its functionality with multiple systems in the house.
