The first proper rock album I heard was one that a class mate handed to me during a Chemistry lesson sitting in the back row of the lab waiting to play with the bunsen burners 😁 It was Hawkwinds first album, took it home after school and put it on my Garrard SP25 turntable with Goldring cartridge, well it was 1975 and I was only in third year so almost no money. I was hooked! I then found Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and still one of my favourite bands, Thin Lizzy. Various other rock groups such as Nazareth, Black Oak Arkansas, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult followed. I spent nights in my room listening to them all supplemented by The Friday Rock show on Radio Forth and John Peel as well as Radio Luxembourg on MW. My other friend at school was into electronic music and he introduced me to Tangerine Dream, Ashra, Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk and so on, he was buying his LPs at Virgin record stores and he always turned up with imports from there. This was my first Tangerine Dream LP. 47 years later and here's my Spotify history for 2022. 😊 Nothing really changed 😁

Yes - Fragile was the first album I bought, actually went to buy Jethro Tull - Aqualung, but it was sold out in the shops, so it is not difficult to guess which was my second purchase. Still listen to Yes, Tull, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Van der Graaf along with Acoustic Alchemy more than any other artists, guessing 50-60% of the time.

I'm revisiting Hawkwind after being away from them for many years. "Silver Machine" was one of the first singles I ever bought. Saw them live several times in the 70s, always a good show (with liquid Len and his Lensmen!)
So I've got an Ebay bid on a NM copy of "Hall of the Mountain Grill". A UK pressing on UA, not Fame. A couple of days to go on that one. And their first album is on my Christmas 'wants' list. Hurry on Sundown!
I wouldn't call myself a rocker, but I don't think you need to be to like Hawkwind.

I thought I was the only person in the world who likes 'Kingdom Come'. Although I've actually only got one of their albums.
