For those who haven't heard, Arke Audio will be building speakers designed by Troels Gravesen.I am very excited to be able to offer cabinet builds and full loudspeaker builds based on designs by Troels. Some people are happy to undertake a DIY project, however, others do not have the time, means or skills. Arke Audio will be happy to build any speaker based on a Troels design. He is a greatly respected speaker designer and has been designing speakers for decades. He has designed hundreds of speakers and they provide incredible value for money. Troels Gravesen's website has many designs ranging from small standmounts to large floorstanding speakers: www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Loudspeaker_Projects.htmI can tailor the build to match your needs and budget, for example: - The cabinets can be very similar to a Troels build - birch ply with a lacquered finish or you can go more bespoke. It is important to maintain key dimensions (driver locations, front baffle dimensions and cabinet volume), however, it is possible to tailor the design to suit your taste and budget: curved sides, bespoke materials, veneers and bespoke paint finishes etc.
- The cabinets can be mocked up in full 3D and I can offer a design service for very elaborate designs.
- - Different levels of build:
- Cabinet build only - you finish the cabinet, build crossover and fit all drivers, wiring and binding posts etc.
- Cabinet build and finishing (paint, veneer, varnish etc.) - you build crossover and fit all drivers, wiring and binding posts etc.
- Full build - speakers arrive fully finished.
Please let me know if you are interested in a build - we can discuss options and I can provide a quotation.

Might be interested in some OBL15’s - I can build crossovers what would a rough cost be for woodwork? Thanks for your enquiry. I bet the OBL15's will sound amazing! Would you be looking for a build very similar to the Troels design? Baltic birch with a dark grey high density fibreboard central (step) baffle? Also, would you require grilles? Perhaps drop me a PM and we can discuss options? Jason

What would the enclosures cost (MDF)? I can build the crossovers and I will lacquer them. Regards

The front baffles are 40mm bamboo ply. I would certainly be happy to prepare an accurate quotation for you. Please confirm if you would do the sanding, driver fit, binding posts and wiring also? I am happy to tailor the build to suit you. Many thanks, Jason ARKE Audio

My cabinet design may not look right in mdf only, as the joint details may not look right. It'll work functionally, but will look unfinished with Lacquer only. Jason

Hi Jason, what are your thoughts on Troels ScanSpeak Bookshelf-3WC? Hi, thanks for the question. I've not heard those specific ones, but all the models I have heard are very good. Obviously, the more expensive kits tend to sound better. Which speaker you choose depends very much on your room, amp, speaker size constraints and budget... to name a few criteria. Some more information/requirements would help. If you're keen on a 3WC design the Faital 3WC-10 or 12 may be worth looking at - very good VFM.

Hi Jason,
My sincere apologies for asking a question then being completely oblivious when you took the time to reply. To be honest I lost interest in hifi for a long time and went back to a childhood obsession of fishing! With a new arrival from the stork imminent I’ll be hanging up the rods for a while and have started putting a BB3 together to get my system up and running again. New speakers will be on the cards at some point, but a new house will be 1st. The Troels bookshelf design looked like a neat way of getting 8” drivers to work in a tight(ish) space. I’ve installed a few pairs of Neumann KH310 monitors into domestic settings over the years, I wonder if your knowledge of active bass could be used to implement a partially active version of the Troels 3WC bookshelf speakers?

Hello, No problem! Hope you enjoyed the fishing. I'd need to look at XO points, but active bass should be possible on those bookshelf speakers. The 8" drivers will do some mids too, so you'd have to accept DSP on lower mids too. Send me a message if you'd like to discuss further nearer the time. All the best, Jason P.S. I plan to build some for myself later this year, so should have a demo pair.
