Hello all,
'Rocklard' has become 'Arke'... Why? I have now started a new business venture 'Arke Audio'.
I love making beautiful speakers and want to make beautiful speakers for others. I have been making DIY speakers for 20years and I'm addicted. I have always been amazed at the incredible value one can achieve from DIY speakers - I truly believe that a well designed and built bespoke speaker will outperform a retail speaker at twice the price! This is obviously subjective, but I'd like others to experience better sound reproduction for less!
I'd imagine many of you are sceptical, and I understand this completely. After all, how can a man in shed make speakers much better than all the big names for less? The big manufactures have many specialists, R and D budgets and have been at it for years. This is an extremely valid concern - why put your faith into Arke Audio? How do I convince you? I have created a pair of demo speakers. Soon these speakers will be available for demo and I'm looking for head to heads with other speakers.
These demos and 'head to heads' will (hopefully) show others what bespoke and beautiful speakers are about. I'm listening to the demos now... They have no stands and they're not properly run in yet, BUT... to my ears they are something special, very special. If people disagree, that's fine. If people love them I'll be making more, AND (within reason) can make them to suit you.
The range will start with a standmount speaker. These were the initial concept ideas:
The design comprises a central cabinet and outer cheeks - the cheeks will attach and compress a viscoelastic material - this will create constrained layer damping. Side walls will have a total thickness of about 30-35mm with the damping layer. Spoiler alert... The demo speakers side walls are very dead - it works!
Anyone interested can choose the finish of the central cabinet and the cheeks. There will be many possibilities... Veneer, piano black, bright red, leather, vinyl, natural timber, bamboo... You choose.
I have already developed (by special request) curved 'wing profile' cheeks.
The one on the left has a dramatic sloping top too...
If these demo speakers are well received a Floor stander will follow shortly:
I'm working on Flagship speaker and a sub too.... More details to follow.
Thanks for reading folks and please ask if you have any questions.
