Thanks for taking the trouble to share it, but he’s taking the piss with the price. It’s worth about half what he’s asking, The MKV has been about a few years now, so it’s not the latest version. He may get a bit more being. Adealer, but anything north of a grand would be more than others had achieved,

Well it's the 'latest spec' according to the vendor. Have you seen those versions sell cheaper, Westie?

Well it's the 'latest spec' according to the vendor. Have you seen those versions sell cheaper, Westie? S. Yeah, a MK4 on PFM has been on a while at £1000. A MK3 and MK4 last year went for £899 and £900 respectively on EBay. Other retailers are selling a MKV so I don’t see how MKIV can be the latest. www.mackenziehifi.com/sonneteer-orton-mk-v-integrated-amplifier-2664-p.aspThis amp could be over 5 years old as the MKIV was launched in 2014. He’s been selling it since at least June as far as I can see. Dealers tend to see ex dem as some half way house between used and new. AFAIC I’d rather have an amp that’s been used normally by one careful owner than something that’s been hauled about and demmed. I don’t see the advantage in ex dem. To me it’s used, and possible used less carefully than a true owner would. As Macca rightly points out, the magic £1k figure is a hard barrier to cross with hifi sales. Harder still for a low power SS integrated without a phono stage or headphone capability.

I don't think that's quite true.
A mate of mine bought some Spendors off him for £300 which was way under the current price at the time. Yes, he has a lot of expensive stuff and to be fair, he doesn't seem to offer much for a bargain price. Doesn't have to though does he. People pay.

Slightly off topic but have you heard any recent Spendors? I’m supposed the be getting those SA1s off my mate this weekend. Just wondering whether they are even worth plugging in. If they are still the pipe and slippers jobs of old, I will save myself the bother.

Not heard anything new but a guy over on AoS bought a new pair recently and knowing his system and his thoughts on sound, he says they aren't Pipe and slippers anymore but have retained their beautiful midrange.
I have a suspicion they may be pretty good

I have a suspicion they will be battered into submission by my Spicas Still, I will have to give them a listen. At least they are pretty in Piano Zebrano with matching stands. My mate loves them, so they can’t be too bad. We usually like similar things.

I think after my recent speaker change and ultimately realising that in my head the Pioneers beat everything I tried, it may have been because I was blinded by love, rather than actual performance.
however, I have never heard Spicas either lol

I think it may be somewhat down to my love of heavily sloped baffle, semi omni and omni speakers vs conventional ones. Even within that, Spicas are special and my newly rebuilt ones have taken a big step forward, I’ve had a helluva lot of speakers and none have deserved mention in the same breath as Spica to my ears.
I’ll give the Spendors a chance to sing though. I really hope they aren’t sleeping tablets dressed up in Zebrano clothes.

Won't matter mate, your love affair with the speakers will keep you happy in the speaker front

Yeah I will be quite happy to sell them on. I have him some bits a while ago and he’s giving me these as payback, so selling them on makes sense anyway.

I’m not sure what they would be worth tbh. I will probably start them with the stands at £499 and see where they go. They owe me a bit more than that but it’s good to encourage bidders with a lower price. The stands were apparently £400!

I don't know them but according to DSJR Spendor now have two ranges - one that still puts you to sleep and one that sounds like normal modern speakers.
