Are you comparing £10 worth of off the shelf smps with a significantly larger more expensive external supply?
Hardly damning

Today I finished my Yamasaki 12 year old whisky. At €175 for a new bottle, I won’t be replacing it. The price has gone stupid.

Without being snobbish, Jameson is a “run of the mill” blended whisky. It is ok, but I have had better. Yes, better has been a bit more expensive, but I prefer the character in single malt whisky.

Jameson is tat.
The House of Suntory make some superb Whiskeys. The Yamazaki 12yr i have just finished was about £80.00 for the bottle. Ihave also just finished a 21yr Glenfiddich that was rather special. Had both bottle for over a year, so hardly smashing them down lol.
The local specialist has a really interetsing bottle of long aged Glenfiddich. It's on my whisky wish list for Christmas and i can't see it online anywhere, so i'm gonna try and pick it up in the next few weeks. I'll look forward to that. Not cheap, but good whisky isn't.

@bigman80 "Jameson's is TAT" At £30 a litre I don't call that tat, obviously you are living in a different world to me. How you oligarchs live I can only dream about.

The price you pay for whiskey is irrelevant. The taste dictates the opinion. Glenmorangie is about £5 more expensive and is not tat. Surely the none oligarchs can scrape together another £5 for a decent single malt?

Not cheap, but good whisky isn't. Is there such a thing as GOOD whisky? To me it's nothing more than over-priced Jeyes Fluid in a glass bottle with a fancy label. Smells about the same, and of those I was cajoled into trying, it tastes like it aswell. 🤢🤢🤮

Good whiskey has great flavours. The lighter coloured ones generally have a more fruity after taste. Very nice indeed. If we ever end up in the same room, I'll make sure I have a bit of the good stuff to get you educated lol

...am back home and on the AA boards slightly. I've been away on business for the last four months with no time to think about HiFi... nor even to listen to music, sadly. In a couple hours will be my first listening session at home since June. Looks like there are some conversations to catch up.

One of the guys who tried 'educating' me was into his whiskey big time. £50, £100+ bottles, small batch single malts, etc, etc. All smelt and tasted the same to me. I never have and never will see the point on spending £££s on what to me is like drinking a medicine. If I wanted that sort of taste a bottle of Kavonia is only about a fiver.

My son in Oz likes a drop of whiskey - got me one of these for fathers day a few years back, which I indulge on occasions and has lasted yonks

I have taken delivery of, and am now listening to a Supra Excalibur usb cable (innuos > Mutec) to replace that disgusting Chord Epic, and very nice sounding it is too. Straight out of the box it has better detail and separation with increased tightness than the Mutec & BI giveaway cables, which sounded excellent and better than the Epic to my ears. Will see how the sound develops over the next 30 - 40 hours.

Most of what I've tried at this price point or below I tolerate at best. More into Vodka, though boycotting Russian Standard these days, so will try some Ukrainian Nemiroff.

Zubrovka, is superb, well worth getting into if you've never tried it. Lowest Q commercial vodka I will drink is absolute, Smirnaff (whatever colour label) is only fit for cleaning engines or paintbrushes.

Very crisp with a lovely finish. Even better when drunk straight from the freezer (pours like 3 in 1 oil).
