Plenty tunes today which is always great. The Sansui sounding better, since back from some maintenance work and service

Now I know how McDonalds employees feel, but without the obnoxious customers One more star and you will be eligible to learn how the machine that cooks the chips works. I worked in KFC when I was at University. The only good thing about it was that you got free food. I quickly exceeded my lifetime safe dose for deep fried chicken.

Probably varies, depending what time the train turns up I've given myself an early dart today, because it's just too warm to work. I have an operating range of 18 to 21C. So am now in the garden with a cold drink and my laptop, which I'm struggling to see with all this bloody sunshine...

6 hour day, that's alright.
Start my new job tomorrow, 0900 to 1800. They do give you an hour for lunch though.
Think my normal hours will be 0830 to 1730. Assuming I make it past the first day. I've not really done any proper work since December 7th last year and not actually been in an office since March 2020.

Can be daunting, especially when you've been out of the race for a bit.

Thanks all.
Being at the same company for fifteen years I'm worried that I've become institutionalised. I mean you don't even do fifteen years for murder these days. Except in the Yank prisons and they never let you out so it's not a problem.
I had it cushy there too. Desk by the window, my own private bog. Everyone knew not to hassle me. Now got to start all over again. Oh well. How hard can it be?

Be sure to set your stall out day one Martin - On my first week where I am now I made the mistake of appearing willing to make everyone a cuppa. Now I can't even go to the bog at the far side of the kitchen without someone shouting "Brewing up Ste?"

Now I can't even go to the bog at the far side of the kitchen without someone shouting "Brewing up Ste?" Hah yeah that's right, I've done that at the last two places. Thanks for reminding me. Got to get that established right from the get-go, never, ever get into rounds with the tea and coffee. My other policy is never get involved in birthdays or you're having to buy a card every other week. And you miss someone out because it's Joan from accounts or something and you hardly ever see her, and then they have a good old moan about it. I don't do anything for your birthday, you don't do anything for mine, and everybody' s happy. They did a big thing when I turned 40, cover my desk in bits of foil, banners, all that. So when my fiftieth came round I told my manager if it happened again I would turn round and go home. So my department did nothing but Central Billing didn't get the message and so they put up the banners and a whole load of crap on my desk instead. The Billing bird says to me 'Those misery guts in your department weren't going to do anything for your birthday so we thought we'd step in.' I mean you can't win can you?

Best you leave before your 60th then. Believe me, incontinence pants covered in glitter is no fun.

Great advice on here.
When I went back to do some part-time, the thought that really helped me was that I didn't need to do this job, and if it was crap, I could just leave. Took all the pressure off and I enjoyed it loads more.

It also works that if you’re so confident of your abilities, you believe they can’t do without you.....lol

did my first day, not too bad. Even got out half an hour early.
Got a big desk, in a corner, by a window. Two screens! - never had that before. Free tea and coffee. Chair seems to have lost most of it's padding since Noah was using it on the Ark, but you can't have everything.

I used to dream of working near a window, now I fit the bloody things. Be careful what you wish for. Glad it went well mate.

Very nice. An "upgrade" on what was already a great record. I bought my original back in '77 after hearing it through a pair of NS1000Ms, rushed home to play it on my BSR McDonald t/t, Bush Arena amp and Wharfedale Dentons. Was still great though, quality music won't be held back by a five quid needle.
