Ah but Corsica was a French territory by the time he was born. Of course I knew all that and never once looked at Wikipedia after reading your post We'll let him in on a technicality then He was apparently of Italian descent and saw himself as Italian. Again, these things I know, without any need to look them up on Wiki! The only thing I did know about the dude was that he wasn’t apparently a shorthouse. I forget how that misunderstanding took hold though. Maybe Wiki will know

I googled it and it’s not good news for Cagey. Apparently anything measured in French inches will be shorter!
“At his autopsy, Napoleon measured 5’2”, but that was in French inches, which were larger than British and American inches.”

'Time Bandits' I think 'Alexander the Great... five feet exactly! Isn't that incredible ? Alexander the Great, whose empire stretched from lndia to Hungary - One inch shorter than me!
Oliver Cromwell... the only man with any guts in British history - Not a big man at all.
Louis IV, five feet two and half. Charlemagne... a dumpy little five-footer! - Squatty little chap.
Attila the Hun, five feet one and a half ! Cyrano de Bergerac! Five foot three!
Tamburlaine the Great - four-foot-nine... and three quarters.'

Marie Curie. Then we can move on to artists and even musicians. I already did. Then there's Jean Renoir, Jean Cocteau, Jean-Luc Godard, Edith Piaf, Django Reinhardt ....

I was referring to those born local to the area. A few years ago I read a newspaper item about Whistling Jack Smith who was responsible for an iconic 60s tune: I Was Keiser Bill's Batman. I found it a tad hard to believe that he actually hailed from Stanley, Co.Durham, pretty close to where I live. Anyway, it seems he was only paid a set fee for the performance and never got any royalties from it. And the bloke you see on YouTube isn't him. He was just there to mime it.
French: Francoise Hardy Maurice Chevalier Charles Aznavour Edith Piaf Yve Montond Jean Paul Belmondo Alain Delon Louis Bleriot (English Channel Crossing)
