It was my favorite year. After 1979 the world went a bit crazy and it's never been the same since.
I was too young to be buying records though.

I was working in the west end then and bought many LP's per month at the time. I can't pin songs or albums to a particular year, but around this time some favourites were Tangerine Dream - Exit and Tangram (I think White Eagle came after) Steve Hillage - Open, and the double album Live Herald Steve Miller band - Circle of Love (eff, it was 1981) Michael Jackson - Off The Wall (lovely recording played through a decent sound system) Oh yeah I forgot - Siouxsie & The Banshees - Join Hands (the track Icons NEEDS a revealing BIG stereo) (Toyah came into my life later on, Gawd bless her)
Vangelis - China
OMD - Organisation, but this may be 1980
I got to know loads of other albums but the above is a taste from around that time.

I'd say 1969 was better than 1979 in terms of music. It was when I started buying albums for myself, so that probably distorts things.
Some albums I bought that year:
Fleetwod Mac: Then Play On
Dylan: John Wesley Harding
The Band: The Band
Led Zeppelin II
Cream: Best of Cream
John Mayall: Looking Back
I still have all of them, except that Led Zep II is on its third copy; the first was borrowed but not returned, the second I left at home when I went to university and was snaffled by my brother.
