The Spendors are pretty much done. Just some minor bits to do. random rollVery nice. Looks as though the veneer grain figuring almost matches on both. Guess you'll be selling them now?

Yeah they need a more appreciative home. The matching veneers are a really nice feature. Whoever covered them in mahogany stain and varnish probably helped protect the wood. It’s lighter than walnut of 30 years should be.

Not for me as I have this sound already three times over, but how much would they be worth now? Vinyl preludes were offered to me ten years ago for eighty quid. I bet your beautifully restored walnut ones would be a multiple of that?

Y’know the white kans and dark stained Spendors cost peanuts to sort. The Polycell paint stripper cost under £6 and I have some left. Liberon ebony stain was a fiver and I’ve used almost none. The Bri Wax was £12 and I have more than half left.
That’s two pairs of speakers transformed for £23 and loads of fun and pleasure had doing it. Absolutely zero skill involved in any of it. Anyone with one functioning hand could do exactly the same.FWIW the veneering on the Spicas was no more challenging. More enthusiasts should rescue unloved gear. It’s really rewarding.

If you do go digital active there's actually a massive amount more to fiddle with. You could spend several lifetimes just mucking about with the DSP settings. But it doesn't involve buying and selling stuff though so a tad cheaper Don't forget this is Westie's blog, no buying and selling, what would he do with his spare time and money.

Those slanty things look odd to my eyes, as if the left pictured one has the black 'baffle cover' on the skew...

Cheers, Dave. The TC60 have a lot more bass but still sound very much in the same vein. The TC50 didn’t have the offset drivers, so you may not have seen that before. It was only included in the 60 and the Angelus. I wish I’d kept my Angelus, but sonically I rate the 60s as better, if I ever see another pair though.......

I picked up another couple of bargains tonight. An Akito needing a rewire for £50 and a SCHIIT MAGNI 2 Uber for £39. I had a voucher so got 10% off those prices. I needed a headphone amp and the arm was too cheap to miss.

The Magni is very compact. Very easy to live with. Powerful enough as well.

If I had better headphones, I’d probably have bought a Lyr, a Valhalla or an Asgard. As it is, SR80i is about the best I have,

The Valhalla is good if you have high impedance headphones. Like for example, Sennheiser HD600. Lovely combo and highly rated by many.

the ASR tests on much Schiit gear doesn't inspire much confidence I must say. The Mani came out ok and one of the new dacs was ok as well. Most of the rest lived up to the maker's name it seems.

I only have the Asgard 2 to judge so far but it was really good. Measurements are totally irrelevant to me.
