Disgusting, should be made to pay it all back, sell everything even if it leaves her homeless. She's at an age were she will need the NHS, no freebies to her. On the other side of the coin there seems to be plenty of needy cases that just don't get any help at all.

I avoid this sort of angst by never reading tabloid newspapers, either in paper form or online.

I avoid this sort of angst by never reading tabloid newspapers, either in paper form or online. Gotta agree. I hate the bad energy those lowlife give off so I try to avoid reports about them, as well as newspapers and TV programmes designed for their consumption. I’m happier that way.

I avoid this sort of angst by never reading tabloid newspapers, either in paper form or online. Tabloid or not it's all the same Sh#t, different day. Politicians talking bollocks, 'journalists' talking bollocks, idiots in the middle east killing each other. People with nothing better to worry about wringing their hands over it all. Never changes, never will.

On the other hand, as Anthony Trollope wrote back in 1878:
''A huge, living, daily increasing grievance that does no palpable harm, is the happiest possession that a man can have."
Some people enjoy being wound up over stuff like benefit fraudsters, just like some women like reading 'misery memoirs' about the awful life some poor sod has had, which I would simply feel depressed by.

That was back in Victorian days though when people had nothing better to do in their spare time except read a book or go for a walk. I mean it was hard enough killing time in the 1970s, especially on Sundays, let alone a century earlier. Now there's no excuse for getting wound up about bollocks. Crack open a can and put a decent record on.

Sundays weren't too bad even in the 1970s if you were a Catholic, but a Welsh girl I met at university said that her upbringing in a 'chapel' household was so strict that, not only was she allowed to read only the Bible on a Sunday, the curtains were kept closed all day in case she got distracted by something more interesting going on outside.

Sundays weren't too bad even in the 1970s if you were a Catholic, I don't know. Church was worse than being bored just having nothing to do as that was actively directed boredom. And you had to go out the house to get subjected to it. And then there was that dead time from the end of the cartoons they used to show after the football all the way through until 'That's Life' started. I mean the fact that 'That's Life' was a highlight of the day really illustrates my point. The 1980s were better because you then you had 'Bullseye' on at 1730 to break it up a bit. There's a reason that show got 20 million viewers and it wasn't because it was good.

There's a reason that show got 20 million viewers and it wasn't because it was good. The thing about Sunday was that it wasn't a schoolday. Boredom wasn't as bad as boredom mixed with fear, which is what school provided, and you could always punch your younger brother if you got very bored at home. I remember someone on another forum recalling how Sunday evenings hit a low spot when Songs of Praise came on, partly because, well, it was Songs of Praise, but mainly because it was at that point you remembered that you hadn't done any homework, and that school would start again in about 12 hours time.

When I was that age I could, and often did, sleep twelve hours at a stretch, even if I'd been sat on my arse all day. As a student I often stayed in bed well into the afternoon. My cousin was an only child, and his parents never bothered much with church, so when we visited them on a Sunday, his lordship would usually still be in dressing gown and pyjamas at three in the afternoon. Having been turfed out of bed at 7am to go to church, I used to really envy him.

To be honest I'm more mad at the idiots in authority who failed to notice something was wrong. Most of these benefit frauds are people failing to report change in circumstances. Strange that at the same time they refuse benefit to those entitled.

I'd start with the companies and multimillionaires illegally avoiding tax and work my way down to the small change punters. Making Google pay thete fair share of tax would wipe out the cost of all be efit fraud overnight.
Look up the numbers, benefit fraud is tiny compared to corporate tax evasion

Certainly some blame must be pointed at the DHSS, but this 'lady' knew what she was doing.

Plus tax evasion costs 100 times what benefit scams do and there's allegedly three billion or so in benefits that people are entitled to and don't claim. And the people evading tax are all loaded already. But if you didn't prosecute at least some high profile scammers everyone would be at it and it would cost a shitload more. I can't get worked up about it though.

Me neither. Mind you, I grew up surrounded by people whose ideas about following the rules about claiming benefits were on the 'relaxed' side.

Tax evasion should be tackled but benefit scroungers just suck the life out of the country. At least if your eligible for tax, you’re making a contribution to the economy. I’d reduce benefits down to a level where you’d not starve but no way would you be able to build a lifestyle out of breeding like rabbits and sitting about all day.

My view is they have little effect. Worse is the scammers that have recently been scamming claimants of loans related to universal credit. Much greater losses. Most of the twats that get caught are done so on camera and are providing entertainment value for reality TV. It's hard to credit how stupid they are. I doubt the clever ones get caught that often. Now what is sucking the life out of this country? Controversial, but I would say people who won't accept referendum results and inept politicians.
