Using Google translate it tells you little about how they sound. Mainly a measurement review. Does suggest you need a sub. You don't need an expensive sub. Maybe the better ones will last longer? They only fill in the lowest bass octaves so ultimate quality isn't critical. I have a Wharfedale SW150 which can be now found discounted to £150. Can't see an REL at ten times the price being better. Subs can be really great and I don’t get the negativity from so many folk. I’d bet lots of it comes from people with little or no experience of them. I’ve had 3 subs. Two REL storms and a JPW. The storms were significantly better but the cheapie JPW was still worthwhile. With my TC-50s the extra bass was more valuable than it is with the TC60s which have a bigger cabinet volume and an unusual port. If I have any issues moving the Rebels on, I will likely grab a sub near me and give it a try. Hell, I get so much pleasure from looking the Rebels, I’d sit and look at them and still think they were worth the dosh. I dunno what it is with petite hifi of amazing quality but it really draws me to it.

Looking at those measurements they definitely need a sub or better still a 'bass reinforcement' speaker that goes up to 150hz or so. The FR is ideal for it in fact. I've got a big Yamaha job (SW120) that would do the trick. I used to use it on the telly with some JBL Control Ones as satellites and it worked very well.
I bet they sound really toppy but with loads of 'detail'

Coming back to my Spicas the first impression is of a duller and fuller balance. If the designer can keep the clarity and lack of any hint of a box, whilst scaling up the bass, I’m interested. Edit: Just double checked the size of the Cenya. Still too small for me. The floorstanders don’t appeal so I’m probably not going further down the Penaudio route.

The carpet when we moved in was blood red......and so were the walls! The hallway and stairs were a dark moccha and the carpet was dark chocolate. The bedroom walls were deep aubergine. Thankfully the ceilings were white.
I’m off to do a long listening session today.i listened leads yesterday too. Spicas back in place and the world seems right again, with the exception of those stands, The Spicas are as ugly as a pair of demons testicles to start with. They can’t really hang with ugly stands too.

I hate taking stuff away from stock, but I have a dilemma. My Spicas weren’t pretty when new. They has a few dings and really look time-worn. Sonically they delight me, but I don’t want something looking the way they do in my room. There is zero money in revamping them and I dislike pimping stuff. Do I try and find a pretty speaker to beat them or do I spend time and money making them pretty and getting some more fetching stands?
I’d love to hear what others think. I have done some veneering and could do a neat job. The finish applied never looks like a bought pair though? Thaw there are grilles and the felt blankets glued to the front. I’d be able to get them like a bought pair either, but I can’t have these ugly ducklings sat round looking the way they do.

So Westie, hows the system journey going? S. I think it's a journey in name only these days. Every item I get is inferior to what I have. The Nima never got tried because it was for the Xerxes and its PSU dying just after I’d bought the Nima rendered the purchase redundant. The R200 was sold because I got Johnnie at Audio Origami to rewire and re-stub the RB250 and I’d like to use that arm on the Mantra. I had yet another issue on Sunday pm, the Spicas bass unit stopped playing on one speaker. I gave it a thump out of anger and it came back on! Clearly some issue with wiring or crossover though, Given my run of bad luck and very short temper, they are on borrowed time if they piss me off again. Ugly hifi can’t afford to be temperamental hifi.

Sh#t happens with Hi-Fi sometimes. Which can lead to a frustrating experience. I've experienced it myself, so I easily relate with you, Westie.
When you get some time. Can you make a video recording of those larger Spica's in action?

Old gear should always be stripped & rebuilt. Always to avoid this kind of thing happening. New gear just wants throwing in the nearest canal

Seems to be hand made using naked copper strands, thread and tissue paper. It’s unravelled a bit as the tissue paper is coming away. If I refurb the Spicas it will need some serious time and money. I’ve passed prettier turds.

Straight re-wire wire them,. Change out all the caps.. I wanted to keep the X-Over boards in my speaker so i opted to Change the ELCAP Bi-Polar Electrolytics For Mundorf 'E-CAP' Bi-Polars..

Getting the Michell RB250 back tomorrow with a full Aidio Origmami rewire and a new counterweight and stub. Should be a step up from what it was. Johnnie does great work.

I’m playing with stands. They look a bit weird but I thought i would just try the Spicas on the 28” Penaudio stands, immediately better.
I have a theory that bigger speakers often sound better because they are taller and the drivers give better and more realistic image height. What’s er stands I do end up with, they will be tall.

Oh and I also tried the spicas with the drivers towards the centre. This is the way they were designed to be used. By the time I found this out I had already placed them the other way and liked them so much, I didn’t want to meddle. John Bau knew his stuff. They are even more coherent.
So far, Reference 3a and Penaudio have been walked on by Spica and both were significantly more expensive. I doubt I will find s speaker I like more and I think I’m at the point where I don’t even want to try. Other than my vinyl front end, I think I’m done.
Edit I’m sick of the iPad putting apostrophes in loads of plurals. I’m also fed up with editing posts to correct them. From now on, if it’s wrong, I’m leaving it.

Don't worry the error correction in my brain usually makes the sense out of some of the more garbled stuff. It does fail on the odd occasion though

The garbled words are all my own work I have a sequencing issue with my right hand. I damaged the ulnar nerve in my right arm in a cycle crash and my fourth and fifth fingers seem to lag behind. My brain thinks my fourth finger has pressed a key when it’s still getting round to it. Fine motor skills in moving my hand are also imprecise so I also hit the wrong keys. Then the iPad tries to make sense if it and Officer Crabtree appears,
