I got to almost 9 mins. Some merit in his points about VFM but pretty OTT. The differences between premium and mid market headphones are never enough for me because headphones aren’t a high fidelity way of listening to music AFAIC. Having music in your head just doesn’t work for me and so far nothing has projected a single drop of sound into an external soundstage.
They don’t look any more expensive than my RS2es which I think should be half the price asked.

Grado use exactly the same drivers and magnet arrangements over all their headphones all they change is the cups and band. So when you pay £1000+ for their top tier stuff, you're just buying tarted up cheap phones. The 325 are the sweetspot for VFM, if you don't mind the horrendously toppy balance and razor sharp break up at the top end.

More comfortable than the 325. Having heard a couple of £1k plus Grados, I probably agree that I don't feel the need to go beyond the 225...but then headphones are a small percentage of my listening.

Savvy, What is your opinion on the AudioQuest Nighthawk? S. Very much a poor man’s Audeze LCD2 to me. The cable is a thin and crap. I bet if you upgraded it, you’d have a decent headphone,

Some of the people in the comments section are claiming those Grado's could be defective or something. That could be the case, or the people are just saying that to cope after hearing such brutal review.

The thing is, the guy who supplied them has clearly put a lot of hours in with them, given the extreme wear to the ear cups. If they were sub 20 dollar sound, I’d expect him to notice. The other alarm bell for me is the reviewers preference for the SR80 earpads which are the very worst solution sonically. Grados are strong medicine and I think some will find their ultimate end point just too much.

I don’t have a headphone amp and my best cans right now are SR80i but I’ve bought one to see what it does.

I bet if you upgraded it, you’d have a decent headphone, I would not recommend the LCD 2 to anyone. Preferred my PSB M4U1's at less than half the price, and use these for music on the go. Serious headphone listening with Senns HD700, these really did show a clean pair of heels to the LCD's.

I'm sure I heard some Audeze not long ago but don't know the model. Total crap they were, all bass and no presence at all. No fizz to liven the highs either! I'll stick to me 'DJ' models - there's bass articulation, mids are very clear and the sparkle is smoothly done and for me, not unpleasant although it's not 'refined' especially - at least they don't 'sting' or 'fizzle' like top Beyers used to. I can hear deep into recordings too and its interesting how my affection for cheaper Grado's has grown as a result...

I have heard the high end of the Grado ranges at shows and been extremely underwhelmed. I have had 80's, 125's, 325's and my current PS500 which I think are the sweet spot, anything above that and you just don't get a lot but pay a lot.
