Jammy. Hope you don't mind me asking. Where did you purchase the Falcon's from?

Not holding back (NVA amps) - not with the 3/5a's, but P3ESR's need something more assertive - macca's Krell would be perfect I reckon. The bigger NVA's are perhaps too subtle and understated for such a complex speaker (so much gets lost in the crossover). Why am I here on this thread?

I use an Exposure power amp with mine (can't recall which one, but Farlowe-era). They drive the Harbeths well.

It's a good size Ant, one must have somewhere in the castle to show off the Stag Heads.
Dave can't help himself, he has a wealth of experience in the world of hifi and it's always good to hear the ramblings and views of one so knowledgeable. Thing is others have their own (no less valid) views, we're all different, there's more than one way to skin a cat, one man's meat is another pudding.....etc etc etc.

What small speakers would I have?
I honestly don't know to be honest. While my early 70's IMF Compacts still work, I'd be happy to stick with them, cone EMI tweeter and all. I did like the odd Sonus Faber years ago too if they were on high enough stands.
I worked for KJ in the 70's remember, and Audiomaster were next door making their version of the LS3/5a's, over which Robin Marshall (the very same) spent much time, energy and headaches to get them right. Their less spectacular review over the Chartwell ones in the '76 'Choice was because they were half burned out in the power tests before the listening sessions - don't know how the Chartwell versions survived the same (all the manufacturers made their own crossovers then, winding their own inductors to suit and measuring every capacitor precisely and Robin fine tuned every one...). They were very carefully assembled in batches by a dedicated chap named Roger I remember.

That's dedication for you Dave.....
Seems such a shame to Frazzle lovely LS3s on power testing though.
Wot happened, stuck a pair of 300 watt Krells on em, Vol 11.
