Well - where do I start. As some of you on here may know I own a pair of Reiver manufactured speakers (the Jenna) and a good number of you have heard (or even owned) their Eddingdales - they tended to get good reviews. Colin who does all the cabinetry work has decided to call it a day and will no longer create these speakers but decided to make one last pair for himself and try to better the performance of the Eddingdales as his final swansong. Today, I went round to his house to have a look at his newest creation and obviously have a listen - boy are these good........ They are around 1.4 meters in height and possibly weigh somewhere in the region of 80Kg each - they are an infinite baffle design and use a very different driver array for the mid drivers which work so well. The bass drivers (2 x 10 inch per cabinet) are powered by a plate amp with configurable DSP of around 200 watts. I was gobsmacked by how well the drivers worked so well together and the bass - to die for. The speakers worked so well with all sorts of genres of music whether it was large scale or stripped back, vocal only or a full orchestra - I don't think I have ever heard a pair of speakers reveal so much information and be so musical before - he is one hell of a lucky chap. Sorry about the pics - the best I could do at the time. If you want to no more about them, then visit the Audio-Talk forum (hope this is allowed Oi?)

Awesome! I bet they sound incredible! There's no substitute for displacement, you can't cheat physics!
I'm building my Vaders because I hanker for a more realistic and viceral experience. All the best sounds (IMHO) at shows have been reasonably large speakers, with good sized bass drivers.
I'll be keen to see what you think of the Vader when done.

The best I have heard from a speaker to be honest - but they have been tuned to his room which always helps!! Looking forward to hearing the Vaders too

Looking forward to hearing the Vaders too I am not surprised Andy, they are serious speakers - very impressive. Looks like he has some serious amplification too. I'm hoping for good things from the Vaders - I'd love to get your feedback when they're running.

On the Audio-Talk forum is your best bet - under the 'Swansong' thread. It was based on a similar design but was much bigger with the bass drivers top and bottom and the tweeter in the middle. They felt that it would look too big and that the tweeter would not be optimally placed. The design is nothing new, just the way it has been put together etc (again, they went for a sealed unit while the one in the link is ported. And boy, does it work well

Interesting design. Looking at the Tekton website, the tweeter arrays do the midrange and the central single tweeter does the high frequencies. Making the mid drivers a lot more responsive, faster. Interesting, I'd certainly like a listen.
I'm a bit put off by part of their blurb where they imply they don't want to reproduce a concert hall sound, but to get the sound you'd hear from the conductor's podium, i.e. without the hall 'atmosphere' or ambience. That doesn't sound right to me, I want to hear from my system what I'd hear at a real live concert.
Quote... "or go to the symphony hall and ask if you can sit in on a practice session and get next to where the conductor stands and listen to what is actually going on. Folks, that’s real music. That’s real, real music. Shouldn’t an audiophile want to have a real music experience, not something that’s dulled down and warmed down and liquid fluid sounding? That’s not music.”
Actually, no, that's not real, real music. It's not music as the composer intended and expected it to be heard by someone in the audience. Nonetheless I'd like a listen.

I haven't read a bad word about these speakers. bigbird pointed them out when he bought his Dynaudios, and that was a while ago now. Interesting things.

He didn't use the tweeters for the array as he felt it could be improved upon so they used full range (well, not really but you know what they mean) drivers instead - which works soo well. If any of you have heard of LDA (Long Dog), Nick who runs that business has also helped with the fine tuning - apparently he used to run a pub a long time ago and he had jazz nights - he reckons it is the first time he has heard something able to replicate that sound (using a live recording) since ever, so they do replicate the atmosphere etc. We played some live tracks and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck

To be honest they sound awesome too. I may be having next year with my gear - the main one is moving rooms around so I can use the larger front room for HiFi duties so larger speakers will be looked at but not Colin's last pair as these are his final builds do will see how this moves forward - main thing is to see how far we can take the Jenna's. Next year should be very interesting I hope for me.
