These are looking stealthy. I like them. Really pleased with them. It's been a lot of work, but all worth it. Satin black is very stealthy. They'll look stunning when the caramel veneer is on...

Very nearly there... Just caramel bamboo to bond on and lacquer and then it's the final fit out. Still awaiting arrival of the bass drivers. Soon hopefully 🤞

I bet Alan can hardly wait to get those beauties back home. When "Ekta Day" comes, Alan will be up at 3am because he'll be too excited to sleep. Christmas morning will be nothing by comparison.

Ekta day has got to beat Christmas day, we gave up swapping presents some time ago. If you haven't already got what you want you're doing it all wrong Not so sure about the up at 3am..

I am chasing the Bass drivers Alan. They are on back order with Scanspeak - they did say mid November, so hopefully soon. How big is your chimney..? Santa is trying to work out the delivery method?

I'm afraid some Christmas traditions are not relevant anymore in our household, we even purchased our cards in the same shop at the same time last week I no longer get my flight tickets through the post, everything done online, so new hifi is about the only thing we can get excited about these days - old age ay, but it does have other advantages.

Bamboo veneer is going on the Ektas. It's very raw atm - lots of finishing required. However, I'm very pleased with how it's coming together. This Ekta is much easier to make, but still has the soul of the original ARKE Ektas. 😀

That's a good thing Jason, just take your time. Not far off now. Just some sanding and Lacquer, then it's final fit out. They'll be playing music a day or two after the bass drivers arrive.

The first pair of ARKE Audio Ekta mkIIs (Troels Gravesen design) have been delivered and are looking wonderful in their new listening room. I stayed for a quick listen and it's safe to say they worked incredibly well in their new home. It's a pretty long room and the speakers produced a fantastic level of well controlled bass and pressurised the room really well. They are reasonably far out (into the room) and have lots of space to breath - soundstage depth in the room was very, very good. It's a great music room and certainly allows the speakers to shine. I was a little concerned about the large amount of glazing, however, high frequencies were well controlled and certainly not too bright. The room is otherwise well damped and has lots of populated shelving to provide diffusion. There is no wall behind the listening position, which helps enormously with the soundstage. I am extremely pleased with the finished cabinets - the satin black and 3mm bamboo veneer worked extremely well - slightly understated and beautiful (IMHO). They continue the ethos and styling of my original Ekta design, but were significantly quicker to build (more than twice as quick). Here are a few pictures in my music room:

The satin black and bamboo juxtaposition is sublime with a very professional level of finish.
It pleases me greatly that Jason and I could agree on a design that looks amazing and can be reproduced relatively simply. The cabinet shaping is extremely attractive and shouts good design.
Well chuffed to own end game speakers.

They are superb sounding also. So much detail, refinement and different presentation to anything I’ve had before. Just amazing. At the same time I’m not really hearing them at their optimum. My room has many reflective surfaces, and I reckon I really need to compare with a 686. Still.. first world problems eh?

Just looking at the room there Steve's right, looks to be a lot of reflective surfaces and it's not huge. Correct me if I'm wrong but also I seem to remember stevew mentioning the ceiling wasn't that high either?

Correct me if I'm wrong but also I seem to remember stevew mentioning the ceiling wasn't that high either? I thought the room was a decent size. Yes the ceiling is very low, however, the room modes (high 30s and mid 40s) were present but not too excessive. Steve doesn't have to have the speakers shoved in corners so that helps. A few heavy/thick wall hangings and deep frame canvases (with rockwool inside) will sort the reflections out.
