I don't get the adds either. Think I clicked on the message at the bottom of the screen to remove banner adds from the forum

The lower panel (40mm bamboo ply) has been cut and rebated. A dry fit to check everything fits well: All the main panels have been cut and rebated. Driver holes and rebates will be required when the drivers arrive. Next steps will be sanding and prep for painting and veneering. Lots of damping to add and then it's time for glue up and assembly! 😀

Starting to look like a speaker aren't they They are! I love the size and proportions of these. Don’t dominate the room, yet outperform much bigger speakers (ie Concept 500’s) Could be why I’ve ordered a pair. Well done Jason.

firebottle, stevew - These are rather lovely pieces of engineering... The Scanspeak Illuminator 12MU 4" midrange driver just arrived for the next Ektas mkIIs: They're also good enough (albeit slightly adapted) for the Wilson Audio WAMM Master Chronosonic at £700,000!

£700k that's fookin' ridiculous.
I've never seen speakers that look so incredibly well designed, even to the spacing of the securing screws/bolts being arranged near the three spars.

I know incredible design and engineering, the bass drivers are the same. Incredible that Scanspeak do a range above too - Elipticor. Rarely see those on retail speakers

Busy day today... Firstly, cutting and attaching 4mm Tecsound damping to the Ekta's panels. These panels are getting heavy now and there is still 3mm bamboo veneer to attach too! After the Tecsound went 8mm of felt - this was bonded with a vinyl adhesive: Finally the crossover boards were cut and the components bonded on.

being fussy id filp one of the front 2 inductors on its edge to keep interaction to a minimum.

Thanks, good spot! I did think about that, at that distance (around 10cm) the effect isn't supposed to be an issue: www.troelsgravesen.dk/coils.htmI could turn the smaller one (to the left) on it's edge, so may do that.

when i did my ns1000 external crossovers i did a much a i could to keep to these placements. I have seen that - it's very useful. I go with what Troels has tested and advises mostly. My images don't tell the whole story as the Bass crossover location has been taken into account too. The Bass inductor location has an effect on the mid range inductors too - the midrange inductors are placed to account for the (large) bass inductor too. It's all an optimisation based on the space available. These crossovers are for Alan and he is involved in the component orientation choices. It will be done it the way that Alan is happiest with.

when i did my ns1000 external crossovers i did a much a i could to keep to these placements. There isnt masses of room in the Etka to fit two crossovers, so yeah, best practice for external XOs is a bit easier. However, looking at the pictures of Troels designs means Jason isnt far off. The measurements are a pretty good indicator that there isnt much in the way of compromise. Also, have you seen how many speaker the guy has designed? It's mental.

When I put mine together, all be it on a PCB, I cut a hole and it looked like this. Lots more room when fitting externally. Cable is now replaced with PC CCC

Looks good pete. You're fortunate to have a reasonable amount of space. The Ektas are slightly tighter on space, but believe me there are certainly no issues with SQ because of it. Oli will attest to that.

I've been very busy in the workshop lately and have got a little behind with posting. I'm currently building two pairs of Ektas, 1 pair of Vaders and an SP10 plinth! I need to finish some soon, as space is getting tight! The Ektas are coming along really well. They have been fully felted internally and both have been glued together: Many clamps required! (No outer front baffle yet) Ekta mk II next to part of the Vader Bass enclosure! Outer front baffles are now in place and the top panels are glued on - these still require a flush trim and chamfer.

The 3mm bamboo veneer has been cut and is ready to go on after painting. After A LOT of filling and flatting, it was time to paint. Primer first, then some additional filling of minor imperfections with a stopper (fine filler), then the satin black paint finish. Some minor touching up remains and a final polish....
