No Quadral Tony? I thought those standmounts at the Midlands BO looked and sounded interesting.

A pair of TAD's should be a good enough replacement Steve

The quadral are one of those quiet brands that people look over, but inreality really do deliver well.
If we were taking any Quadrals it would be the Vulkans or Titians
This time is about sheer musical prowess and enjoyment plus a few surprises with the equipment, we will be looking to have ticketed demonstrations of 20 minutes and 15 minutes Q&A, and no two sessions with the same music.
Stephenson III is a resonable sized room and the Sedan 9's would be a bit lost as good as they are.

Will you be taking a "shut the F#ck up" sign?
There's nothing worse than great kit, in a great room expertly set up, that you want to listen to drowned out by coffin dodgers gabbering to each other.

Very long day, but Cranage is always a great event real music lovers, excellent atmosphere, friendly great natured show, just got back to the hotel and checking emails and this one was in the inbox thought I would share this with you
Subject: Hi Fi show demonstration
Your Message: Hi I was fortunate to attend one of your demonstrations today. I would like to complement you for having the most realistic sounding system at the show. I could not believe the naturalness of the music you played. There were louder systems on display and if I were looking for a system to watch films through they would be the ones I would go to. For listening to music yours was head and shoulders above the rest. Thankyou for the wonderful opportunity to listen to it and the explanations of the equipment. Regards Alan Leese
A really nice message from a gentleman we have no connection with at all

Here's some of the pictures I took: B&W - not as good as I expected, sounded a bit fuzzy: Nagra with YG Acoustic speakers and Plinius power amp - this was good, seem like very good speakers, filled a large room very easily, smooth with lots of detail and good bass. Marten speakers with some big monoblocks, don't know what they were. Wasn't keen on this set up at all, using vinyl source though so maybe an issue with that. More to follow

3 Square Loudspeakers. Had a listen to the floorstanders, not bad at all: Accuphase - mmm.... Accuphase  I want the CD Transport. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine. The speakers were good, can't recall what they were though: I think these were Kudos speakers, with twin subs. Good sound, I think, subs perfectly integrated, but terrible music so didn't stop for a longer evaluation. More to follow

Avid - loudspeakers and integrated amp. These were giving a good sound Klipsch Cornwall with some fancy valve integrated. Need a much bigger space but not really my thing - looked vintage and sounded it too, not in a good way Chord Electronics: Don't know what the speakers were. Never been keen on the styling of Chord but have to say looks a lot better in the flesh than in pictures. Sound quality was passable to good. Kerr Acoustic: Not sure of the model number but it's the big one. Heard these before and was very impressed, same this time. If you've got the space and the money... plenty more to come

Golden Ear Triton 3: cost a lot less than I thought they would, decent but not great KEF LS65 - these are active speakers. Good bass and mids, top a bit soft and recessed. Don't think that was the speaker just how they had them configured but don't know for sure. They fell just short of being incredibly impressive as a result. KEFs room was like some sort of 1990s Euro disco but the chairs were comfy. Kerr Acoustic again, smaller ones this time. Like the big ones these were impressive, I could live with them I think: PMC - love their studio monitors, never been at all keen on their domestic speakers but these weren't half bad, needed a bigger room to play to their strengths I think:
