Bought on a whim because I liked the look of it and I thought it would do in my computer room for when I'm cleaning records. Mind you that room needs gutted and rearranged but that's a job for a rainy month 😂 It's a B&O Beogram 1700 from the early 80s I think. Came supplied with a B&O MMC20S cartridge. It arrived in a box that was bomb proof and is the best packaged HiFi item I've ever bought and I've bought a few 😉, it was double boxed, padded, platter off, transit screws done, the works, arrived in 24 hours from time of sale too. I left the ebay seller + feedback as he was a credit to eBay sellers everywhere. I wish more eBayers would take as much care. So, although it's meant for my PC room, it's now playing in the living room as my SP10 MKII is currently armless having sold my Fidelity Research arm (yeah, thanks Oli 😂). Its a wee cracker and I think it would give your cheaper Regas and Projects a fright, in fact I'm sure it would embarrass a few mid range tables, in fact it's better than my first TT in about 30 years the Rega P3 and even my old Gyrodec would be sweating. Well chuffed, be interesting to see if my wife notices it on top of the rack when she gets in from work tonight, if you don't hear from me again, well you'll know 😂😂😂 CAF Oli, CAF 😉 😂

I bought it on looks alone, but I'm even more pleased now I see it in the flesh.

There's some serious engineering in B&O of that era. Way ahead of the cheaper end of Regas.
Just looks alone though as you say it's a statement piece.

Ive enjoyed looking at that, Mikey.
I remember going to Beatties in Wolverhampton. They had a B&O section, sliding door CD players etc. Absolutely loved the aesthetic and wanted one desperately.
Unfortunately, there weren't many 14 year olds dropping a £1k plus on CD players at the time, and I couldn't buck the trend.
Lovely TT.

Yeah, B&O kit always looked cool, I only saw it in magazines in the 70s and 80s. This TT was £99 in 1982, right at the time we were burgled, lost my record collection so went to CD. Took me almost 35 years to get back into vinyl after that. I'm on the lookout for the better EN or CL cartridge for it but they aren't cheap. beocentral.com/beogram1700

B&O stuff is normally overlooked by ‘audiophiles’ because of it’s lifestyle appearance, but they never fail to innovate and engineer things properly.
I’ve got a Beogram 3300 in my home cinema system for occasional vinyl playback in that room and it’s a very decent sounding bit of kit. Even better since I bought a new Soundsmith SMMC3 cartridge for it (they aren’t cheap either).
Enjoy!

That is one nice looking turntable, certainly a show piece in anyone's room.

Listening to it just now, Tango in The Night, Fleetwood Mac followed by Thin Lizzys Johnny The Fox.
This deck is a delight, if you fancy a cheap turntable for a second system or even one of the kids, it's seriously good, fully auto too.
Carts are NOT cheap though, even this MMC20s basic level that's on it is anything from £120-£200 used, better cartridges for it are £400-£1000 😳
I'm now thinking this is one of the best buys I've had for a while, it'll do me nicely until my techie is back up and running.
