Okay that makes sense. Chinese pre/dac? You mean that Xiang Sheng thing? I had a go on that, had some good qualities but I didn't rate it overall. DCB1 - Krell KSA50S still remains the best amplification I ever heard although BT2/Neurochrome ran it very close. Yeah that's it. In preamp mode it was really good here. Can't remember the power amp I had at the time but it was better than the DCB1 with it, althought the DCB1 was better with the Krell 100. Didn't fare well with the 686 and was sold when I bought the Neuro 8x2 pre. All before fell a great deal in my ratings in comparison to the biscuit tin . You may loan mine when the time suits us both.

Alan brought me back my Krells today. My gratitude to him is without bounds. Thanks Alan.
Don't want to say anymore in case I jinx it.

Will keep the two KSA50S, might sell the KSA100 if someone is after one.

Prices aren't strong for them at the minute though, so id hang on a bit. Can't tell you how pleased I am that they are both up and running now. Has musical bliss returned to the Macca Mansion?

well had no problems last night, listened for about 3 hours.
I will have to put the DCB1 back in, still using the Philips pre-amp as that worked better with the NAD so it was already hooked up and I couldn't be arsed to mess about swapping pre-amps after working all day. Just wanted to listen to some music to 'decompress.'
I was fairly happy with the Philips/NAD combo, it was just that the NAD did not have the same level of resolution in the bass, I think because the speakers drop down to 2.4 ohms. I suspect with a speaker that is an easier load the differences between the two would be a lot less obvious.
I've got loads of equipment that I'll probably never use again but I'm not in any hurry to sell anything. Maybe next year when I've go time on my hands I will have a clear-out.

^^^^^^^^ Equipment is just not selling at the moment, or for the past 3/4 months. I've seen some wonderful kit on the forums, some of these would normally have been snapped up in a day, just one example, our very own Jandl has a Prima Luna power amp for sale, and at a bargain price, it's been hanging around for more than a month.

On the other hand I've seen sales made within an hour or two of it being posted up.
Not saying either of you are wrong but we need better data on that. A number of hi-fi dealers have mentioned that they have been very busy last twelve months so new kit seems to be selling.

I have noticed a fair few people asking unrealistic prices as well (not Jerry obvs) so that's not going to help. Possibly they are going by eBay asking prices instead of checking the sold prices.

Well, the phonostage stuff has gone crazy this year, so yeah, on one hand that's right, but trying to flog anything used seems to have been a grind. I have a little feeling that the prices in the used market topped out this year. No bad thing BTW. Either way, i'm not in the market for anything now.

I know many folk ask too much for 2nd hand hifi, their items don't seem to depreciate, especially items that are 6 or more years old. I've been looking at Rotel power amps, some more than 25 years old and they're asking more than £250, I did manage to get one but it still feels expensive for what it is. It's a RB 980BX and cost £170 delivered if anyone is interested. As Macca says "sales have been made in an Hour or 2, but they've been at giveaway prices or particular high demand pieces in my opinion.

Finally got round to putting the DCB1 back in. Back to my super-system that I last had two years ago almost. This is the same sound, give or take, that we had when Ollie brought round his BT2/686 the other week. The music seemingly happening completely independently of the speakers and electronics, with no artifice whatsoever. Nice.

I am sincerely pleased for you 😊 The sound we got out of my visit was extra incentive for me to sort out my own speaker issue and in hindsight, I was miles off the pace here That amp, preamp and improved Soekris made fantastic sound from your JMLabs....If you or on or around that, you must be buzzing 👍

Has it lost that softness you were having issue with or is it still there? I'm not sure which probably means it isn't. I will need to swap back to the Topping to check. I'm still inclined to think that in this set up my old Sony XB790QS was better than either, so need to sort that out. It has a problem with the drawer mech so nothing serious.
