Worth watching just to get a look at an OTT LPS. What a beast.

600va transformer to provide +/-15v and +5v at around 1.5A........totally bonkers.
However, I doth my cap to the materials used as I appreciate the quality and it looks a very nice build....in a modushop case. Hence the damping material.
$7k....
Wow.
I will not dispute the effectiveness of removing a SMPS in a DAC. It completely changed the Soekris 1421 when we did it and I am not far off doing the same for the 2541.
Maybe I should stick a fancy name badge in it and ask for £3k 🤣

I know there's the intellectual work that's gone into it but it's pure hifi profiteering. I could build something that would make that look like a toy, if I had a £1k build budget.

This set up has reviewed before on audiophile style about 18 months ago
The dave takes uptp 6 amps on the 5v rail to power those 1 million taps lo. Has he stopped using those lovely plastic IEC replacement panels now?
Sean's psu are quality not as quiet as some available but its all point to point and bespoke internals a fair amount of time to actually put that psut together
I would suspect nearer 1.6k for that total bom
For the total cost of the dave / upscaler and psu just buy a proper dac for less in thr first place imho

They look well built, but we both know it's all aimed at relieving pockets of money.

The caps are overkill, 2 per rail would do exactly the same job as he's using active rectifiers anyway. And there's longer life, lower impedance, higher ripple rated cap for 1/3 of the price of those mundorfs.
It's beautifully built though

Watching the video, he's melted the corner a couple of things with the soldering iron, end of the Neotech hookup wire has seen a bit too much heat too. It's nit picking, but it's £7k.....it should be immaculate.

He has used Silent Coat all round the inside of the case, the same material I have just used. I needed a lot less.

I'm surprised it needs any with an encapsulated traffo.

If you're going to charge that much people want every base covered I suppose.

Wasn't always as expensive as this Oli. Humble beginnings and all that Yeah i get that Brian, and i must admit my stomach bug made me somewhat unforgiving yesterday. As the wife tells me "you're a miserable Sh#t when you're ill" lol So, in light of feeling much better today, i will re-evaluate my impression of the unit. I believe the designer is actually very well respected and his supplies are in fact very good, rather than the tat sold elsewhere. For me, this unit is extravagance for opulence sake. I wouldn't use the caps he has used. I think there are better suited, less boutique parts out there and if you look a "proper" stuff, you'll see what i am talking about. Great build, extravagant components, probably works very well, too expensive.

Decent IEC plugs and mains plugs for under a tenner. I tried a mains distribution block, similar to the one Chris (opticla) built which was around £200. Some of his earlier PSUs were also very reasonable. Sean was always very helpful, as I'm sure he still is. Hope you're feeling better mate. Same here, I don't do 'unwell' very well
