I have been scouring the internet of late for other items of Japanese origin, and came across this rare beasty: zenmarket.jp/en/auction.aspx?itemCode=t1038319403At £7k i am rather put off, but it did get me thinking....is it worth getting an Aluminium Plinth made. I mean, i have no need for one as the Pazerplinth is pretty much unbeatable. I like the aesthetic though and i think it would be fun. I have access to a machine shop with a one of a kind owner who would be happy to billet one from a piece of Alu..... Should i bother? Panzerholz is getting to be in the unobtainium catagory in the UK... Consideration required.

£7K, yeah right ! Panzerholz plinth is job done, no need to even consider something like this - waste of time, big big waste of money, has to be said

If you like the look just get a polished Alu top plate done for your existing PH plinth. That's what I'd do wtih some damping/bonding material in between.

I would suggest a polyester resin plinth filled with bentonite clay. Interesting article here - qualia.webs.com/plinthbuilding.htmBut then again, a Panzer sandwich, with something appropriate may be better than what you have now.

Not looking to change the Panzer-Plinth....just looking at what's available for future endeavors.

Panzer/alu/panzer sandwich would be good. I think clear audio use that combination.
It seems it is actually alu/panzer/alu on ClearAudio.

Superb and far more common sense idea than that £7k take on - would love to see a Panzer plinth with an added Ali touch. Done properly with care and thought would look class, particularly Kevin's Panzer/Alu sandwich suggestion

Bigdude's got itchy fingers again, selling his 686 boards and now looking at plinth etc. He'll be on another speaker quest next! 🤣

There is a guy selling on PFM too, but he wants way too much money for it (IMO) last time I checked. Although I suspect it could go up again due to Putin's shitehousery. Andrew Cunningham used to import it and it was a fairly simple to get.

The plinth in your original link is so expensive as it comes with a built in towel holder, or is it a toilet roll holder?

Why not club togther buy one pull it apart and do it better. Some of the newer resin based and compiste materials have quite stunning porperties. Could have gone down that route a few times but its just a TT as a commerical proposion its a bit lame. But for a Hey look at what I can do it maybe worth the effort for some of you.

For some of us, you may be right.
Personally, I can’t be arsed messing about with plinths. No point on an SL1200.

Many moons ago I vibra-cast a speaker cabinet. Epoxy, silica balls, ground rubber, wood flour. It was a bugger to mix up, but the resultant cabinet was utterly dead. Was about 6g cm3, not ridiculously stiff, somewhete between plywood and alloy of same thickness but incredibly well damped. Not the level of surface finish we'd need for a plinth though..
