Photo in situ as requested. Can hear these getting better and better as the crossovers run in. I bet they sound very decent there. Big fan of the amplifier too. Beefy Krell!

My educated guess is they are being powered by the valve monos, I cannot see any cables from the Krell, although they could be running under the rack and round to the speakers.

Nil points lol, Krell is a bit poorly, they are being run by the SM70 Pro top centre, with which they sound great. Looking for another to monoblock as they are supposed to sound a lot better that way. Not that I have any complaints how it sounds now.

There is a SM70 Pro, and the earlier one that was true class a. If you could find two of those, you'd be very happy.

Hard enough finding a Pro lol, though Alan has one that needs some repair, so hopefully that one will be up and running soon.
Even one sounds better than the Krell at the moment though.

Yeah, they are hard to come by and usually have a bit of transformer buzz as the traffos I had in all 4 of mine were 230v. I know of a fifth that buzzed too. Great amplifiers though.

The one I have is very quiet. Slight buzz but you have to be close to hear it.

Well looks like I’ve gotten lucky- have been offered a pair of SE 100 Mk2 Deluxe monoblocks. Can’t be too many pairs of these in the UK so quite fortunate I think.
Anyone heard them?

No, but you shouldnt hesitate. Monarchy made some bloody good amps. Always worth asking about transformer buzz, as they all seemed to suffer with it to some degree. Even so, I'd say get them and swap the traffos if required. As you say, as rare as dinosaur droppings. First dibs if you flog them on.

On doing some reading, it appears it was the early amps that were noisy, when they were updated to the Pro and MK2, this was apparently specifically addressed. I've not heard any of the early ones, so can't comment on them, but my Pro is pretty quiet.

I can't remember what he changed, but when I spoke to him (can't remember his name) he confirmed that only part of the circuit was class A on the later models. Quite irrelevant really as they all sounded excellent. Can I ask what price he's requested?

If memory serves, power was increased, the output transistors were changed for a higher spec and doubled in number, so while you might say it’s not Class A to max rated power, they’re still as much Class A as the originals (15w/ch I think), it’s just they can provide a lot more in A/B when required. In any case, 99.9% of your listening will be in A. I paid 700.

Second was to get the schematic for a Transformer replacement to one of my four monarchy Audio amps and then after that there were a couple of email chains about various thing. Lovely guy.

Yeah all accounts say so. Seems he only ran it for a hobby, wasn’t bothered about making money. Guess that’s why they were cheap.

Just back from picking the amps up. Pretty sure each monoblock is heavier than the SM70. Won't get a chance to try them until I'm home Monday night.

Just came across this measured response curve from Nord Acoustics, who used to sell IPL's as completed speakers. Looks pretty good to my untutored eye-
