Ugly wires killed for one more night. Strange how they come back to life when you're in your pit, keeps the money coming in though.

That job would suit me really well. I’d be able to live on those 3 weeks wages for about 18 months!

As long as he doesn’t want kids or marry a gold digger, he will be minted.

When I worked in sales I was saving between 1 and 2 grand a month. Blew the lot seeing the world, 5 star hotels all the way. Then came back here and started again. No regrets. Never thought I would ever be able to do that when I was young and poor.

Except when you are old you don't want to do anything but sit inside in the warm and watch the telly.
I'd rather live for today.

I agree. And I've always got a house and a vinyl collection I can cash in if I somehow beat the grim reaper and get desperate

Except when you are old you don't want to do anything but sit inside in the warm and watch the telly. I'd rather live for today. My philosophy exactly. My dad was a sobering example to me. He had 2 kids in his 20s. Didn’t want them and certainly didn’t want any more. He had me in his late 30s, worked even harder to get to a place where he could retire early and sadly died at 47, just months away from achieving it. The most he ever had was a couple of weeks a year back up in Scotland. He hated working for others and was never happy in the small amount of free time I had with him. All he strove for was to be free. I felt like I owed it to him to get what he was denied, so at the first point I could get out and have my retirement early, I did, OFC if I live to a hundred and spend all me wad, I will probably end up being B&Qs oldest employee! Still, at least I will have lived a helluva life whilst I was young and fit enough to make the most of it.

47 is so young. That must have been hard. My father died at 69 and I thought that was bad. He had a very good life, though. Did exactly as he pleased and he couldn't care less.

oh he will be..never seen him buy anything..not even a can of coke..ruthless with his cash he is.. one day when he gets a good job he'll be minted i wonder where he gets his obsession with money from? As a little kid I used to trade toys with other kids and put ads in the local paper when I had traded up to something worthwhile. Used to buy 2nd hand stuff and sell for a profit even then. Never worn expensive clothes except for a year when I was young and daft. Never spent money in pubs or nights out. Hardly ever bought something without working out what I could sell it for when I was done with it. I’ve never changed and never will. Some people are just wired that way. I see money as a means to freedom. All you ever really own in this life is the time you are given and the love you give and receive. The rest is just on loan. I decided not to sell my time and my freedom in return for a wage packet. I can’t get those who give their whole week away to a job then spend all their earnings getting out of their heads all weekend just to escape their reality. It’s a tragic waste of a life to me because you’re giving up your work time and your free time, as well as what you’ve earned.

47 is so young. That must have been hard. My father died at 69 and I thought that was bad. He had a very good life, though. Did exactly as he pleased and he couldn't care less. I was 9 when I lost my dad. My wife lost her mother age 3 and her father age 18. Compared to her, I had an easy start to life. Although I didn’t realise it, I held an expectation that I would go just as soon, if I followed the same course and worked myself into the ground. Given that my dad looked like my twin and we share all the same mannerisms and expressions, despite my hardly spending any time around him, I think it may have been realistic to carry that expectation. Whatever life holds for me it can never take back almost a decade of wonderful experiences living wherever I chose and waking up each day without having to do anything unless I wanted to. If I went tomorrow, I’d be immensely grateful for the life I have had.

If I'd spent 3 weeks on a rig I'd want to get out and about a bit as soon as I hit the beach. Tough job, you've got to be able to cope psychologically with it.
