Forgot to detail this, I wanted to put my turntable on a Sound Organization wall shelf
The wall I wanted to use I found was a kind of stud wall, but really crumbly board.
I had some adhesive hooks that I had used to mount various pictures to similar walls.
I tested one of these by trying to use force to remove it, it wasn’t going to move!
Soo....positioning 6 of these on the wall to correspond with mounting shelf holes I hooked the the shelf on and ran away......lol.
At this point no turntable put on shelf.
Came back next morning.....still there and feeling solid.
my turntable about 10kgs I guess, positioned on shelf.....still there.
You can see these mounts on the picture of my rack on the post about number of boxes.

Hell no, I wouldn't even use screw through plugs on a stud wall, not u less into 2x4 battens.

Jesus wept, Gary......I'm nervous reading that.
I've got 4" bolts into brickwork holding my TT on the wall ... I actually sat on it (19st) just to make sure it was ok....
You are a braver man than me!

I know, I thought I was being mad, but it works. Well isolated too the metal hooks are imbedded in the plastic and the shelf is held about 12mm from the wall.
Modern adhesives are used in the most arduous conditions.
Obviously I’ll eat my words when it falls off......
I’m confident!

My reaction when reading your op Gary was the same as Bigman's, but after reading your modern adhesives quote, it is true, they can hold in the most arduous of conditions. Do you have a link to the glue you used?

if the glue isn't the weak point then the paper backing on the plaster board will be. i hope it holds up for you

I think I'd have tested with a 10 kilo weight for a week or so first before risking putting the turntable up on it.
Those sticky hooks are a bastard to get off if you want to get them off, but when you want them to stay up Sod's Law seems to apply.

There are these adhesive things called 'Command Strips' for picture frames, etc and rated for certain weight ranges. However, I mounted a light small pine shelf with just a few 'knick knacks' probably not more than 1/4 of the rated weight. It was great... for a month or two and then fell down one night in our sleep. I doubled the number of command strips, cleaned with alcohol, made an angle of force adjustment. Again great... for two weeks and then fell down. Broke a few things in the process.
Builder beware.

Do you have a link to the glue you used? It was a Methacrylate I can’t make out which one but it’s 3M, I’ve used this before in one of my previous working lives bonding metals and plastics, even trying to “peel” apart the joint would rather destroy the substrate. I hope I didn’t give the impression I was using anything like these....far from it. Gary

There's loads of good glues , pu holds supercars together, but that's on perfectly smooth chemically prepped surfaces, not Sh#t paint onto lame paper coated substrate or dusty brick.
Bolts into brick or rawl plugs into studs. Nothing less.

Phew. I'd be very wary of doing this.
It's not just the weight, it's the 'moment' (technical term) of the mass pulling down a distance away from the wall - think of it as leverage tugging at the supporting surface.
As sq says, it's not the brick wall that's doing the supporting in this case, it's whatever makes up the surface of the wall.
Sadly, I'm expecting this to end in disaster.

You know I’m so confidence in my technical knowledge and ability, I’m not so good at criticism, only in joke form.
Put your money where your comments are £100 says it won’t fail. Put your money where you’re mouth is.

We have good wishes for you but it's your turntable your choice. Don't take it personally if we don't follow your example... even if it's still standing afixxed to that crumbly plaster board in six months' time.

You've no need to worry about the sun going nova, it's too small for that. In about 5 billion years it will expand, maybe sufficiently to engulf Earth's orbit. But the atmosphere will have vanished way before that anyway. That may affect the performance of the adhesive, so the shelf may fall at that point.

You're the astronomy guy Jerry.
An asteroid impact might take it down. Or a tidal wave. How high above sea level are you Gary? I'm not taking this bet until I've studied the form.

Perhaps we are missing each other. In the communities where I've lived much of my life, the phrase "...but don't take it personally if..." is a lighthearted joking statement about the future, not some sort of accusation of what one has been doing.

Let's try and keep it light chaps.
It's sometimes difficult to convey sarcasm/banter using the written word only. I'm sure no malice is intended by any party but would be smart to keep the convo towards mounting TT's to walls etc.
If it does fall off, will Gary post that and pay up ?!?! THAT is the question here . . . .

Bit late to this one. I'm with Oli, I'd only go with some heavy duty fittings.
