What i like is a proper 3 way with big 12 incher at floor level, up firing mid & smooth front firing tweeter at head height. Oh and of course no damping, as few filter components as possible and a healthy dose of dope if needed. Oh no. No No No............... Oh yes. Yes yes yes..............

It starts rolling off at 150Hz and 10 kHz. IMV a speaker needs to be flat from at least 45hz to 15Khz. Otherwise it misses way too much.

The 12" Fane full rangers that Steve Cresswell has made look fascinating and seem to work well in his odd room flat to the wall, where they give best response. www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7242&start=120 I also read recently that in fact you *can* match a 15" main driver to a tweeter as a two way (ignoring Tannoys for a minute) as dispersion isn't such an issue if you know what you're doing - apparently...

You can do, that's how some JBLs work. It's still a compromise though.
I saw Steve's measurements for his Fane speakers and they roll of very high in the bass. I appreciate that doesn't bother people because the up side is bass that is fast and tuneful. But I require bass to be fast, tuneful and deep.
