It was pissing down here but sun has come out last few minutes. I appreciate that we can hopefully discuss these things without getting personal or dismissive, appreciate that is not always easy. okay - so here is a lecture by James D Johnston who is an expert in this field (bio here if you want to check up ethw.org/James_D._Johnston)I'd suggest watching the whole lecture to get the full context but really only the last part is relevant to what we are discussing so if you want you can skip to 1.06 where he explains perceptual bias I appreciate that this is brief but hopefully it does indicate that this is not my own personal crackpot theory that I am espousing but is actually what the leading scientists in the field consider to be the factual case I will ty to find some more at some point but my neighbour is up now so time to listen to some music.

I for one, do find this topic fascinating and as macca says I hope we can continue it in a civilised manner. I have a lot to say on the subject myself and hopefully I'll bore you with that later (when I get a proper moment) but for now this quote is from a discussion regarding skepticism over reclockers etc on another forum and it pretty much sums up a thought I had too: "The only slight problem with that view of life is that you are electing yourself as an absolute arbiter of what is myth or not. You might be right most times but what is to say that you are always right. It is entirely possible that occasionally you will divert someone away from a genuine advancement that you have dismissed as myth or snake oil." So basically it sounds like a lot of people have been burnt or had a bad experience with certain products/experiments/blind tests in the past and as such (and through no fault of their own) now hold a certain view. Which they (through the well meaning of their heart) now hope to divert others from having equally disappointing or expensive (negative) experiences. A nobel endeavour indeed, however due to their past experiences they now lump a lot of these 'findings' (or advertised) in the same boat, to their and others potential detriment. I'm certainly not saying there isn't 'snake oil' etc in any particular product or 'break-through' circuit/DAC but it's a good idea (albeit understandably difficult given negative past experiences) to treat every new product or claim with equal skepticism and enthusiasm. I'm sure the naivety and inexperience of my youth is showing but I'm trying to stick to this mantra going forward.

A good balanced view there, however my stance is that those that can hear clear differences shouldn't be dismissed by those that can't, with whatever 'perception' or 'it's only 1's and 0's' type of arguments.

did anyone watch even the most relevant last 5 minutes of the lecture? Continuing (and enjoying) the whole thing now, only 20 mins in though.
